Adrian, MN Ervin Drenth, age 87 of Adrian, MN died on Friday, August 30, 2013 at Luverne Hospice Cottage in Luverne, MN. Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, Sept. 3rd at Bethel Reformed Church of Little Rock. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. Visitation will be Monday, Sept. 2nd from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m., with the family present from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Jurrens Funeral Home of Rock Rapids. Ervin Lambert Drenth was born February 15, 1926 at the family farm near Ellsworth, Minnesota, the son of Alex and Anna (Brommer) Drenth. He was raised on a farm and attended country school. After his education he remained with his family and helped with the farming duties. On November 23, 1944 Ervin entered the U.S. Army serving in Japan. He received his honorable discharge on November 23, 1946 at Ft. Sheridan, IL. He returned home to his family and continued to farm. On January 16, 1952 Ervin married Jennie Lavonne Hinrichs at Salem Reformed Church in Little Rock, IA. The couple lived and farmed in the George, IA and Ellsworth, MN area. In 1982 Ervins wife, Jennie died, after 30 years of marriage. He continued farming near Ellsworth and on April 16, 1986 he married Mabel (Ackerman) Gronewold. Ervin was a member of the Bethel Reformed Church of Little Rock, active with many church functions and activities. Through the years he enjoyed following his childrens and grandchildrens activities. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed bowling. Also Ervin loved living the life of a farmer. A special memory was being a participant with the Honor Flight. As his health declined Ervin continued to farm until recently. On August 14th he entered the Luverne Hospice Cottage and remained there until this past Friday, August 30, 2013, when he died at the age of 87. He is survived by his wife, Mabel Drenth of Adrian, MN; four sons, Lowell (Diane) Drenth of Little Rock, IA, Lyle (Wilma) Drenth of Ellsworth, MN, Lyndon (Nancy) Drenth of Ellsworth, MN and Layne (Lisa) Drenth of Sioux Falls, SD; a step-daughter, Karla (Loren) Kix of Ellsworth, MN; fourteen grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; one sister, Louise Noll; four brothers, Donald (Alma) Drenth, Harold Drenth, Orville Whitey Drenth and Stanley (Jeri) Drenth; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alex and Anna Drenth; and his first wife, Jennie L. Drenth.
