Sibley, IA Marvin Hoppe age 82 of Sibley, IA died Tuesday, December 3, 2013 at the Osceola Community Hospital in Sibley, IA. Funeral service will be 10:30 AM Friday, Dec. 6th at Trinity Lutheran Church in Sibley with Pastor Barb Kopperud officiating. Burial will follow in Waterman Cemetery at Sutherland, IA. Visitation will be Thursday, Dec. 5th from 2:00 to 8:00 PM, with the family present from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Jurrens Funeral Home of Sibley. Marvin Herman Hoppe was born August 9, 1931 on a farm near Paullina, IA the son of Verna Bertha (Koch) and John Henry Hoppe. He was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Paullina. Following graduation, he drove truck for his father and later became the custodian at Gaza Consolidated School. In 1951, Marv was united in marriage to Florebel Tigner, a kindergartener teacher. To this union four children were born; Bradley John, Valerie Ann, Douglas William and Alan Ray. Marvin changed jobs and the family moved to Primghar where he was the custodian at the OBrien county courthouse. They lived in Primghar for 41 years. Marv was an EMT and served on the ambulance crew for 27 years. He was also a Boy Scout leader, Sunday school teacher and he and his wife were Luther League sponsors. He served on the city council in Primghar for many years. Marv had many volunteer hours helping to build the community building in Primghar. He also served on the 911 board and was involved in the planning stages for the county. In 2008, they moved to Sibley and he was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. He lived in OBrien County for most of his life and therefore he knew almost everyone and they in turn knew him. His family was most important to him. He enjoyed hunting - but his greatest pastime was fishing. Many of his families outings included fishing trips, where they spent many evenings fishing at Silver Lake, Spirit Lake and Okoboji. Every summer his family would take a trip to Lake Minnewaska and Glenwood, MN. He also played lots of fast pitch baseball and he played on a local team for many years. Bowling was another sport he enjoyed. In his later years he enjoyed watching sports on TV. He was an avid Minnesota Twins fan and also a Vikings fan. His greatest treasures were his grandchildren. Marv died this past Tuesday morning, December 3, 2013 at the Osceola Community Hospital in Sibley at the age of eighty-two. He is survived by his wife, Florebel of 62 years; four children, Bradley and his wife, Esther of Sioux Falls, SD; Valerie Hoppe and Douglas Hoppe of Sioux Falls, SD; Alan and his wife, Brenda of Sibley, IA; grandchildren, Alec and Claire Hoppe of Sibley, IA; two step grandsons and seven step great grandchildren. Marvin was preceded in death by his parents, John and Verna; and his step-father, George Panhorst.
