Rock Rapids, IA Arlene Edith Danish, age 89 of Rock Rapids, Iowa died Tuesday, March 11, 2008 at the Sanford Medical Center in Rock Rapids. Services will be held on Saturday March 15, 2008 at 10:30 A.M. at the Christian Church (Disciples) in Rock Rapids with the Reverend Carolyn Solberg, officiating. Burial will follow in Riverview Cemetery at Rock Rapids, Iowa Visitation will be held from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. on Friday at the Jurrens Funeral Home in Rock Rapids and one hour before church services. Arlene Edith Danish, daughter of Raymond and Lydia Bonynge, was born June 24, 1918, near Palmer, Saskatchewan. Following the death of her father in 1933, Arlenes family moved to Rock Rapids, Iowa. She graduated from Wilson High School and took secretarial training at Nettleton Business College in Sioux City preparing her to work for the Burns Law Firm in Rock Rapids. In 1940 Arlene began her 32 year career with the J.C. Penney Company after which she served as Deputy Clerk of Court for Lyon County until retiring in 1984. Arlene was devoted to her family and loved each and every family member unconditionally. She served in many leadership positions in her church and was active in Bible study and Christian Womens Fellowship. Other organizations she participated in were the Business and Professional Womens Association, the Red Hat Society, and the VFW Auxiliary. Service to others was a life long pursuit with an emphasis on nurturing people during times of need. She had a zest for life and loved to play cards and games of all sorts. Travel was her real passion, taking her throughout the United States, to Germany, and to the Holy Land. In 1938 Arlene was united in marriage to Dellis Bud Danish at the Little Brown Church in the Vale, Nashau, Iowa. She was preceded in death by Dellis in 1972 and by her parents, her brothers, Eugene, Jack, and Robert Bonynge, her sisters-in-law, Opal and Mary Bonynge, and her son-in-law Howard Thomson. Arlene is survived by three children Rita (Gene) Gray of Lakewood, WA, Charles (Virginia) Danish of Mankato, MN, and Bonnie Thomson of Urbandale, IA; eight grandchildren Jeffrey Danish, David Gray, Douglas Gray, Mark Thomson, Jennifer Dale, Robert Danish, Steve Thomson, and Megan Hoffman; and eleven great-grandchildren Lauren, Jacob, Reghan, Allison, Osta, Max, Kenzie, Vanessa, Felicity, Logan, and Lydia. The family suggests memorials to Christian Church (Disciples), the American Heart Association, or donors choice.
