George, IA Anna May Ackerman, age 83 of George, IA died Wednesday, October 12, 2011, at Sanford Hospital in Rock Rapids, IA. Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 15th at Zoar Presbyterian Church at George, IA with Rev. Dale Lint, officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Lawn Cemetery at George. Visitation will be Friday, Oct. 14th from 2:00 " 8:00 p.m. with the family present from 4:00 " 6:00 p.m. at Zoar Presbyterian Church at George. Anna May (Duin) Ackerman was born May 29, 1928, on a farm near George, IA the daughter of Anna M. (Schrick) and Peter F. Duin. Anna May grew up on the family farm and attended country school through the 5th grade. She started school in George in the 6th grade, graduating from George High School in 1946. On February 23, 1949, she was united in marriage to Jay E. Ackerman at the Sheldon Presbyterian Parsonage. They made their home together on a farm northeast of George. Over the years she was a devoted farmwife/partner with Jay, loving mother and grandmother. She helped with hauling grain, milking cows, feeding the thresherman crews and faithfully providing lunch to the field. Anna May and Jay enjoyed their time together, fishing in Minnesota, taking casino runs or playing cards with their neighbors. She was a longtime member of Zoar Presbyterian Church where she became deeply involved at all levels, Sunday School Superintendent, Bible school leader, and honorary member of the Ladies Aid. She loved helping her daughter-in-law, Ruth when she owned the Hometown Flower Shop making flower deliveries. One of Anna Mays joys in life was for her and Jay to be able to purchase her childhood farm place in June of 1984. This past Wednesday, October 12, 2011, Anna May lost her battle with Parkinsons disease at the age of eighty-three. She is survived by her husband Jay, of 62 years, of George; daughter, Renae and Eugene Rosenberg of Spirit Lake, IA; grandchildren, Laura (Glen) Galvin and Paul; great-grandchildren, Claire and Garrett Galvin; son, Edgar and Camie Ackerman of Mitchelleville, IA; grandchildren, Camden and Jay; daughter, Kayann and Hank Ostwald of Spencer, IA; grandchildren Kyle, Kirk and Kalli Rose; great-grandchild, Kyryn Rose; son, James and Ruth Ackerman of George; grandchildren, Bill (Abbie), Jared, Jayna, Dustin and great-grandchild, Owen Ackerman; son, David and Roxanne Ackerman of Rock Rapids, IA; grandchildren, Abbie, Ross, Lexi and Kelsey; and sister, Elaine and Kenneth Geerdes of George. Anna May was preceded in death by her parents, Peter and Anna Duin; brothers, Fred, Bernard, Peter G. and Marlan Duin; sister, Alma Kruger and grandson, Seth Ackerman.
