Rock Rapids, IA Phyllis C. Hass, 84, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, May 29, 2009. Phyllis passed away at Lyon Manor in Rock Rapids, IA, after living there since February of this year. A memorial service will be held at Faith Baptist Church in Rock Rapids, IA, at 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 12. According to her wishes, Phyllis's body was donated to the University of Iowa Medical School at Iowa City. The oldest child of George A. and Josephine G. (Conrad) Claude, Phyllis was born April 8, 1925, in Wright County at her parents' home near Woolstock, IA. She attended local rural school and then graduated from Blairsburg High School in 1942. In 1948 she earned a BA degree from Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls. Phyllis continued her teaching career in rural Wright County schools those years; she taught fourth grade in Cherokee Public School after earning her degree. September 14, 1949, Phyllis married John W. Hass in Webster City, IA, and the couple farmed the Hass family farm near George until 1984 when they moved to Rock Rapids. John lived until 2006. Above all, Phyllis enjoyed her family. Her interests included church activities, reading, and following current events. Phyllis maintained many years' worth of family photo albums. Phyllis is survived by three children: Karen (Robert) Sims of St. Peters, MO; Alan Hass of Kingsley, IA; and Mona (Gary) Marshik of Canton, SD. Phyllis was preceded in death by son Lyndon Hass of George, IA, in 2005; surviving is daughter-in-law Jeri Hass of George. Phyllis's grandchildren include Stacy (Jaime), Christopher (Sherrie), and Matthew Sims; Mike Wood and Kenny McCullough; Angie (Bradley) Lubenow and Lisa (Aaron) Maguire; and John (Kristin) Hass and Rebecca Hass, along with great-grandchildren Alexis Epperson and Robbie Sims, Lauren and Brooke Lubenow, Keaira and Ethan Goolkasian, and Ethan Lyndon Hass. Preceding Phyllis in death was her sister Luella Dahlgren. She is survived by siblings G. Conrad (Karen) Claude and Jeanette (Joseph) Best, along with sister-in-law Stella Dahlman and several nieces and nephews.
