Ashton, IA Robert Schaa, age 66 of Ashton, IA died Saturday, March 3, 2007 at the Osceola Community Hospital in Sibley, IA. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM, Wednesday, March 7th at St. Marys Catholic Church in Ashton, IA, with Father Clair Boes as celebrant. Visitation will be Tuesday, March 6th from 2 " 8 PM, with family present from 6 " 8 PM at the Walton-Roste Funeral Home of Ashton. There will be a 4 PM Rosary and a 7:00 PM Vigil service. Robert Francis Schaa was born on June 26, 1940, the son of Harry and Mildred (Schwarz) Schaa in Ritter, Iowa. Bob was raised in the Ashton area and attended country, public and St. Joes Catholic School in Ashton. On November 29, 1958, Bob was united in marriage to Muriel Van De Berg at the St. Patricks Rectory in Sheldon, Iowa. The couple lived in Sheldon, Boulder, Colorado, rural Sibley, Iowa and Ashton, Iowa. Bob worked for Verschoors Chevy (GM) in Sheldon; he was a Supervisor of Flatirons Paving Company in Boulder, Colorado, farmed for five years and drove truck for five years. He loved to be outdoors. He also enjoyed gardening, fishing, visiting friends and playing with the grandkids. He played Santa Claus every Christmas wearing his Santa hat. He always dressed up at Halloween and scared the grandkids. Bob always carried a buckeye in his pocket for good luck. He had a great sense of humor and loved to joke around with everyone. Bob is survived by his wife of forty-eight years, Muriel Schaa of Ashton; four children, Rick (wife Lori) Schaa of Ashton, Jackie Zant and significant other Mitch Stein of Omaha, NE, Renae (husband Mark) Heyen of Omaha and Judy Kruse of Waterloo, Iowa; seven grandchildren, Mike Zant, Kristin and Tawnee Kruse, Austin and Carson Schaa and Nicole and Bobby Heyen; eleven siblings, Darlene (husband Lowell) Van Briesen of Ashton, Margie (husband Leister) Bowling of Seymour, Missouri, Harry (wife Charlette) Schaa of Granville, IA, Kathy (husband Dan) Meinen of Mt. Pleasant, IA, Patty Tjepkes and friend Arnie Dwire of Ashton, Carl (wife Karla) Schaa of Ashton, Dave (wife Rosie) Schaa of Mead, CO, Rose Ann Tewald of Spencer, IA, Maxine Feekes of Sioux Center, IA, Linda Schaa of Ashton and Mike Schaa of Ashton; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Mildred Schaa, two brothers, Ben and Kenneth Schaa and one granddaughter, Abigail Schaa.
