Lester, Iowa Joan DeBoer, age 76 of Sioux City, IA, formerly of Lester, IA died Thursday, June 3, 2010 at the Hallmark Care Center in Sioux City, IA. Funeral service will be 10:30 AM, Monday, June 7th at Bethel Reformed Church in Lester, IA, with Rev. Penny Nance officiating. Burial will follow at Hillside Cemetery in Lester. Visitation will be Sunday, June 6th from 4:00 to 8:00 PM with the family present from 4:00 to 6:00 PM at Jurrens Funeral Home of Rock Rapids. Joan Mayme De Boer was born in Rock Rapids, Iowa on January 23, 1934, to Richard John Dick and Anna (Van Sloten) De Boer. She attended country school and lived at home until her early teens. She resided in various care facilities including Hope Haven of Rock Valley. In 1982 she moved to a group home in Ft. Dodge, IA, where she lived until the home closed. The owner of the group home, Margaret Robeson, was a very special caregiver and took Joan into her personal home, where she lived until Margarets health declined. Joan lived at Greenleaf Care Facility in Ft. Dodge until January 2010, when she moved to Hallmark Care Center of Sioux City. Joan was a member of Bethel Reformed Church of Lester, IA. She was very friendly and outgoing, and loved getting to know people. She had an incredible memory of old friends and family and also remembered the names and ages of the families of her caregivers. Joan loved music, like to sing and enjoyed parties and fun activities. She had a large collection of stuffed animals and would rarely be seen without one in her arms. She is survived by her sister, LaVonne Snyders, her husband Jerry; niece, Jill Bruggeman, her husband, Alan and their children, Austin, Hailey and Chase; niece, Jackie Mc Carty and her children, Brooklyn and Dylan; niece, Janna Severson, her husband Allen and their children, Cody, Justin, Tanner and Zachary. She is also survived by her uncle, Martin Raak of Orange City, IA; and three aunts, Dena Blankespoor of Hull, IA, Claretta Van Sloten and Jennie Jansma, both of Rock Rapids, IA. Joan was preceded in death by her parents, Dick and Anna De Boer; and her niece Jackies husband, Don Mc Carty.
