Rock Rapids, Iowa Pauline Sindt, age 85 of Rock Rapids, IA died Friday, October 11, 2013 at the Sanford Hospital in Rock Rapids, IA. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, October 14th at the United Methodist Church in Rock Rapids, IA with Rev. Marcia Sangel and Rev. Dean Shelly, officiating. Burial will follow in the Riverview Cemetery at Rock Rapids. Visitation will be Sunday, October 13th from 2:00 " 8:00 p.m. with the family present from 6:00 " 8:00 p.m. at the Jurrens Funeral Home of Rock Rapids. Pauline Ellen (Pettengill) Sindt was born March12, 1928, at the Sibley Hospital, the daughter of Christina (Guyan) and Sylvester H. Pettengill. Pauline grew up in Rock Rapids, where she attended Rock Rapids elementary school and Wilson High School graduating in l946. She had a great appreciation for music. She was involved in choir, girls glee club, solos for vocal contests and also concert and marching band where she played the drums. She continued her education at Morningside College in Sioux City, IA where she was a member of the Alpha Sigma Sorority. Pauline was united in marriage to Edward H. Sindt on August 27, 1948, at the United Methodist Church in Rock Rapids, IA. Following their marriage they made their home in Rock Rapids until 1953, at which time they moved to the Sindt family farm. In 1973, she started working at the HyVee Food Store in Rock Rapids and continued as a devoted employee until 1993. She was a lifelong and active member of the United Methodist Church. She served her church in many ways, singing in the choir, a vocal trio group, teaching Sunday school and participating in United Methodist Womens activities. Pauline was a devoted wife, mother grandmother and great-grandmother. She loved watching old movies, reading and traveling with her husband Edward. This past Friday morning, October 11, 2013, Pauline died at the Sanford Hospital in Rock Rapids at the age of eighty-five years, six months, and twenty-nine days. She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Edward of Rock Rapids; their children, Marsha (Patrick) Ballou of Sioux City, IA; David (Karol) Sindt of Sioux City, IA; Paul (Denese) Sindt of Rock Rapids, IA; five grandchildren, Christopher (Kari) Lofflin; Paul (Trish) Lofflin; Jami (Dan) Vander Zee; Eric Sindt and Tyler Sindt; and 9 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are a brother, Roscoe (Jigger) Pettengill of Rock Rapids, IA, and a sister, JoAnn McKay of Des Moines, IA along with many nieces and nephews. Pauline was preceded in death by her parents, Christina and Sylvester; sisters, Ruth (in infancy) Sara Lou, Verna and a brother, Leon.
