Betty Haan

Hills, MN Betty Haan, age 82 of Alpharetta, GA, formerly of Hills, MN died on Sunday, July 14, 2013 in Alpharetta, GA. Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m., Friday, July 19th at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Hills, MN, with Rev. Mahlon Bekedam officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday, July 18th from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m., with the family present from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Jurrens Funeral Home of Hills. Betty was born on January 29, 1931 to Gunder and Inga Martinsen in Hendricks, Minnesota. She spent the early years of her life around Astoria, South Dakota attending school and working in her parent's café. Her family later moved to Hills, where she worked as a telephone operator and in the grocery store. On March 17, 1958, she married Jacob Haan. They spent many years in Hills and in Sioux Falls. In 2008, they moved to Alpharetta, Georgia to be close to her daughter and grandchildren. Betty is survived by her husband, Jacob Haan, her daughter and son-in-law, Penny and Greg Metcalf and her beloved grandchildren Ethan and Allison Metcalf. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister and brother-in-law, June and Arnold Thorin, and her daughter Iris Lynn.
