Audrey Fern Stubbe

Audrey Stubbe, age 78 of Rock Rapids, IA died Sunday, November 8, 2009 at Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD. Funeral services will be 10:30 AM, Friday, Nov. 13th at the United Methodist Church in Rock Rapids, IA, with Rev. Anita Bane officiating. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery in Rock Rapids, IA. Visitation will be Thursday, Nov. 12th from 2:00 to 8:00 PM, with the family present from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Jurrens Funeral Home of Rock Rapids. Audrey Fern Stubbe was born April 7, 1931 in Ellsworth, Minnesota to Richard and Evelyn May (Hickman) Arends. At the age of four she was moved into the home of her Foster family, Clarence (Hap) and Ruth Nelson. Audrey attended and was confirmed at the Congregational Church of Ellsworth. Audrey also attended school at Ellsworth, and was very active in school activities including school plays and being a varsity cheerleader. It was during one of her nights cheerleading that she met the love of her life, Wayne Stubbe. In May of 1949 Audrey graduated from Ellsworth High School and on October 28, 1949 Audrey married Wayne Stubbe at the Congregational Church in Ellsworth. The couple made their home in Rock Rapids, Iowa. While living in Rock Rapids, Audrey worked as a waitress/cook at Bobs Caf and Hesss Caf, and later worked at Hy-Vee of Rock Rapids, Iowa. In January of 1980 Wayne and Audrey moved to Royal, Iowa and lived there until Wayne retired from Cargill. They then moved back to Rock Rapids in the summer of 1992 to start their retirement. Audrey was a member of the United Methodist Church of Rock Rapids and was very active in their Naomi Circle and Crafters. Audrey was also a member of the VFW Womens Auxiliary of Rock Rapids, Iowa. Audrey loved spending time with her children and grandchildren, and was always their biggest fan no matter what activity they were in. She enjoyed cooking, camping, fishing, going dancing with Wayne, and family vacations. Her family will always remember her for her great cooking, her sense of humor, for being a great fisherman, and for her unselfish ways that showed her love to everyone she knew. She will be greatly missed. This past Sunday Audrey passed away at Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD at the age of 78 years 6 months and 28 days. Audrey leaves to cherish her memory, her husband of 60 years Wayne, three sons, Greg and Wife Liz Stubbe of Rock Rapids, David and wife Linda (Silbert) Stubbe of Oak View, CA, and Larry and wife Betsy Stubbe of Rock Rapids, IA; one daughter, Lynette and husband Kevin Wagenaar of Little Rock, IA; eleven grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; four step great-grandchildren; one brother, Harold Arends and wife Shirley of Marshalltown, IA; sister-in-law, Phyllis Arends of Marshalltown; one step-sister Phyllis Hofstad of Sioux Falls, SD and sister-in-law, Dorothy (Stubbe) Reck of Wentworth, SD. She was proceded in death by her son, Michael; her parents, one brother Roger Arends and one sister Elayne Gunderson.
