Jake Van Stelton, age 98 of Sibley, IA died Thursday, August 3, 2006 at his sons home in Ashton, IA. Funeral service will be 1:30 PM, Monday, August 7th at the Walton-Roste Funeral Home of Sibley with Bruce Van Stelton, Tim Vaughn and Mona Reece officiating. Burial will follow in the Holman Township Cemetery of Sibley. Visitation will be Sunday, August 6th from 2 " 8 PM with the family present from 6 " 8 PM at the Walton-Roste Funeral Home of Sibley. Jake Van Stelton, son of Henry and Elizabeth (Den Herder) Van Stelton was born December 3, 1907 in the Netherlands. He was the oldest of seven children. His family immigrated to the United States and settled at Carmel, Iowa at the age of 12. In 1936, he was married to Henrietta Beyer from Hull, Iowa. They first farmed near May City, Iowa. They lived a short time in St. Louis, MO before returning to the farm near Sibley, Iowa. He enjoyed reading his Bible and going to meeting, tending his livestock and later gardening. They were blessed with four children. Henrietta passed away in 1967 after 31 years of marriage. On March 20, 1971, Jake married Margaret Gerloff at Luverne, MN. They lived six years at Alpine, CA and then 25 years in Green Valley, AZ. Because of health reasons, in April, 2002, Jake and Margaret moved back to Osceola County to be near family. Jake lived with and was cared for by his oldest son, Alvin, until his death, Thursday, August 3, 2006 at the age of 98 years and 8 months. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Margaret of Sibley; 4 sons, Alvin of Ashton (Peggy of California), Eugene of Sibley, Virgil (Carol) of Sibley and Jerry (Donna) of Sibley; 8 grandchildren, Alan, Bruce, Chad (Monica), Susan (Andrew Ballard), Shelli, Jeff, Jenna, and Kayla; 1 great-granddaughter, Sohni Ballard; 2 brothers, Henry and Albert of California; 1 sister, Winnie Wirtjes of California; and many other relatives. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Henrietta; 1 brother, Gerrit; and 2 sisters, Gertie and Marie.
