Little Rock, IA Henry 'Hank' Scholten Jr., age 82 of Little Rock, IA, died Friday, March 12, 2010, at the Sanford Hospital of Rock Rapids, IA. Funeral service will be 10:30 AM Tuesday, March 16, 2010 at the First Presbyterian Church in Little Rock, with Reverend Scott Burdsall officiating. Burial will follow in the Pleasant View Cemetery in Little Rock. Visitation will be Monday, March 15th, from 2:00 - 7:30 PM with the family present from 5:30 - 7:30 PM at the First Presbyterian Church in Little Rock. The Jurrens Funeral Home of Rock Rapids is handling arrangements. Henry 'Hank' Scholten Jr. was born on December 11, 1927, the son of Henry Sr. and Hattie (Hoff) Scholten in Steen, MN. Hank was raised on a farm five miles north of Rock Rapids. He attended country school through the eighth grade. At sixteen years old, Hank worked at a dairy in California, and then he later worked for Ivy McKee at a dairy in Rock Rapids. In the mid 1940s he worked for Herb Florian Appliance until September of 1950. On June 19, 1950, Hank was united in marriage to Donna Korf at the First Presbyterian Church in Ellsworth, MN. Following their marriage they lived in Rock Rapids, where Hank was employed with the city until February of 1990, when they moved to Deer Lake, near Effie, MN. After several years at Deer Lake they then moved to Little Rock, IA. Where ever they lived they enjoyed remodeling or building their homes. Hank loved the outdoors and always had time to help others; he was a handyman that could fix about anything such as, electrical, carpentry, and plumbing. He especially loved spending time with his grandchildren whether it was fishing, playing cards or just sitting in the garage. Hank is survived by his wife of fifty-nine years and nine months, Donna Scholten of Little Rock, IA; three children, Betty Jo (husband, Jim) Leete of Gaston, SC, Sharol Broesder of Little Rock, IA and Clarence (wife, Eileen) Scholten of Marcus, IA; seven grandchildren, Stephanie (husband, Mark) Robinson, Eric Van Anken, Kevin Broesder and special friend, Kristen Bakke, Tenille Broesder, Michelle (husband, Dave) Nicks, Bradley and special friend Ashley Marsh and Michael Scholten; and nine great grandchildren, A.J. Rogers, Savannah and India Robinson, Allyson, Madison, Andrew, KC and Brea Nicks and Bailey Scholten ; one sister, Henrietta Timmerman of Bremerton, WA; four sisters-in-law, Gert Scholten of Allendale, MI, Jennie Scholten of Jennison, MI, LaVonne (husband, Edward) Walters of Effie, MN and Dee Scholten of Sacramento, CA; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; six brothers, Arend, Cornelius, John, Gilbert, Gerrit and Calvin Scholten; one sister, Elisa Aase; one son-in-law, Verlyn Broesder and two sisters-in-law, Margaret and Norma Scholten.
