George, Iowa Klaas Klingenberg, age 99, of George, IA died Tuesday, September 27, 2011at the George Good Samaritan Society. Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, Sept. 30th at Zoar Presbyterian Church at George, IA with Rev. Dale Lint officiating. Burial will follow in the Zoar Presbyterian Church Cemetery at George. Visitation will be Thursday, Sept. 29th from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. with the family present from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Jurrens Funeral Home of George. Klaas Klingenberg, Jr. was born August 23, 1912 in rural George, IA the son of Lena (Hassebroek) and Klaas K. Klingenberg, Sr. Klaas was raised in Lyon County on a farm northeast of George. He attended Kelso country school near his familys farmstead. On July 10, 1934, Klaas was united in marriage to Leona Van Briesen at the Zoar Presbyterian Church parsonage east of George. They made their home on a farm northeast of George where he farmed for many years. In 1996, he moved into George and lived on his own until the last few months. In July of 2010 he became a resident of the George Good Samaritan Society. Klaas was a lifelong active member of Zoar Presbyterian Church where he has served as a past elder and deacon. During his life he did a lot of fixing and repairing tractors, small tools, or anything that needed fixing. He did a lot of welding and fixing for neighbors and friends. He loved his children, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He read his Bible faithfully. He enjoyed attending tractor pulls and car races along with watching sprint car races on TV. Many will remember his black Ford vehicles that he kept clean and polished. Klaas enjoyed visiting with friends and family over afternoon tea. Klaas is survived by his daughters, Verla (Clifford) Groen of Little Rock, IA and LaVonne Christians of Sioux Falls, SD; son-in-law, Kendal DeGroot of Sheldon, IA; daughter-in-law, Pamela Klingenberg of George, IA; 8 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; 3 great"great grandchildren; brother, Glen Klingenberg of Sibley, IA and sister, Mabel Voss of Sheldon, IA. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Leona; daughters, Leoris in infancy and Linda DeGroot; son, Klaas (Junior) Klingenberg; son-in-law, Elmer Christians; two brothers, Roy and Willys and two sisters, Martha Harms and Nancy Timmer.
