Ashton, Iowa Helen Krogman, age 99 of Ashton, Iowa died Monday, December 22, 2008 at the Country View Manor in Sibley, IA. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 26, 2008 at St. Marys Catholic Church in Ashton with Fr. John Vakulskas as celebrant. Burial will follow in the St. Marys Catholic Cemetery at Ashton. Visitation will be Friday, Dec. 26th from 9:30 a.m. until time of service at the St. Marys Catholic Church in Ashton. Helen Eva (Dries) Krogman was born on December 4, 1909 in Ashton, Iowa to John and Catherine (Thom) Dries. She attended St. Josephs School and graduated on June 3, 1927. She worked at DeBoers Grocery, Farmers Elevator and A & P Store. On May 24, 1934, Helen was united in marriage to Bernard Frank Krogman at St. Marys Catholic Church by Rev. E. Neppl. They farmed together after their marriage, renting several farms until purchasing their own farm in 1946. In 1971, they retired from farming. Helen enjoyed flowers, gardening and farming. After having their farm sale they started to take a tour each year. They went to Europe, Rome, Germany, France, Austria, Switzerland and Hawaii. They also toured the United States. In 1983, they built a new home in Ashton and moved in on January 9, 1984. Bens health began to fail and in October of 1997 entered the Country View Manor Nursing Home. She joined him in December of 1997. Helen is survived by several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Ben; her parents; four sisters, Margaret Dries, Josephine Fitzpatrick Freob, Leona Fry and Louise Smith.
