George, Iowa John W. Timmerman Jr., age 84 of George, IA died Thursday, August 9, 2012 at the Good Samaritan Center in George. Funeral service will be 2:00 PM Sunday, August 12, 2012 at the Bethel Reformed Church rural Little Rock, IA, with Reverend Matt Miller officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery, with military honors by the Jack Sauter American Legion Post No. 404 of George. Visitation will be Saturday, August 11th from 2:00 to 8:00 PM, with family present from 5:00 to 8:00 PM at Jurrens Funeral Home of George. John William Timmerman Jr. was born on May 27, 1928 in Rock Rapids, Iowa, the son of John Sr. and Kate (Van Hoorn) Timmerman. John attended rural school in Midland Township. On February 7, 1951 John was drafted into the U.S. Army in Sioux Falls, SD and served in the Korean War. Two years later he was honorably discharged on February 5, 1953. John was united in marriage to Gusta Jane Duin on February 10, 1954 at the Bethel Reformed Church rural Little Rock, IA. The couple farmed near Rock Rapids for a time and then moved to a farm by George in 1961. John and Gusta retired in 1994 and moved into George. John was a member of the Bethel Reformed Church, the American Legion in George and the VFW in Rock Rapids. As a member of the Bethel Reformed Church he served as a Deacon, Elder and a Sunday school secretary. Johns life was the farm, but after retirement he also enjoyed Hope Havens wheelchair repair, bowling, playing cards, and golfing. John and Gusta enjoyed many trips with friends and spending time with family. For the past two months John lived at the Good Samaritan Center in George. John is survived by his wife of fifty-eight years, Gusta Timmerman of George, IA; four children, Janice Krull of George, IA, Deb (Burt) Klaassen of Sibley, IA, James (Doreen) Timmerman of George, IA, and Dale Timmerman (special friend Theresa Helmers) of Sibley, IA. Twelve grandchildren, Ryan (Deanna) Krull, Rachel (Rick) Nielsen, Renae (Micah) Weber, Reid Krull, Jeremy (Ashley) Klaassen, Kristen (Travis) Hardie, Taylor and Katie Timmerman and Brian, Brandon, Eric and Kendra Timmerman; eight great-grandchildren; three sisters-in-law, Betty Timmerman and Marlys Duin both of Rock Rapids and Barb Duin of Sioux Falls, SD; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Nellie Pals, Beth Wiggens and Dora Groen; one brother, Wilbur Timmerman; and son-in-law, Rodney Krull.
