Betty Menage

NOTICE: Rock Rapids, IA Betty Menage, age 84 of Rock Rapids, Iowa died Saturday, June 14, 2008 at the Rock Rapids Health Centre in Rock Rapids. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Wednesday June 18, 2008 at the Jurrens Funeral Home in Rock Rapids with the Reverend Dean Shelly officiating. Burial will follow at the Riverview Cemetery in Rock Rapids, Iowa. Betty Menage was born July 5, 1923 to Henry and Leone (Alley) Haan in Rock Rapids, Iowa. She received her education and graduated from Rock Rapids schools. Betty continued her education in Sioux Falls and graduated with a LPN degree. She worked at the hospital in Rock Rapids and then at the Rock Rapids Health Centre as a nurse. Betty also worked at Lanes Caf for 10 years. On February 2, 1952 she was united in marriage to Peter J. Menage at the United Methodist Church in Rock Rapids. To this union, two children were born, Teresa and Steve. The couple made their home in Rock Rapids together from 1952 to 1983 when Peter passed away ending their marriage of 31 years. Betty loved her children very much and time spent with them was very precious for her. She was especially excited to be able to see her great-grandchild before her passing. Betty enjoyed embroidery, reading, cooking and gardening. She will be remembered as a lady who was very giving to others and a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Betty is survived by her daughter, Teresa (Myron) Johns of Rock Rapids, IA; son, Steve Menage of Sibley, IA; grandchildren Nathaniel and Kira; and one great-grandson, Dawson. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Peter; son, Joe Menage and granddaughter Cassie Johns.
