Hills, MN Sigurd Jacobson, age 94 of Hills, MN died Wednesday, May 26, 2010 at Tuff Memorial Home in Hills, MN. Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 29, 2010 at Grace Lutheran Church in Luverne, MN with Rev. Gloria Anderson officiating. Burial will follow at Flowerfield Cemetery near Hills, MN. Visitation will be Friday, May 28th from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with family present 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Jurrens Funeral Home in Hills, MN. Sigurd Theodore Jacobson was born to Theodore and Betsy (Anderson) Jacobson on May 15, 1916 in Rock County Minnesota. He grew up on the family farm, the youngest of seven siblings, and was educated in the Hills School District. Sig married Johanna Berkhof on June 6th , 1940 in Rock Rapids, Iowa, and farmed near Hawarden, Iowa and later in Rock County near Hills, Minnesota. Together they raised four daughters. Sig served on church council at Bethlehem Lutheran, the Hills Elevator Board, REA, and was a Mason and Shriner for several years, but will be remembered most by his family as a wonderful father, grandfather and role model. He and Jo retired from the farm in 1976 and built a home in Luverne where they became members of Grace Lutheran Church. He is survived by his wife of nearly 70 years, Johanna; and four daughters, Sylvia (Roger) Niessink of Luverne, Annette Brown of Sioux Falls, Joyce Burgess of Mankato, and Lynda (Darel) Jacobsen of Mankato. He is also survived by 8 grandchildren " Bryce (Janice) Niessink, Craig Niessink, Lynette (Mike) Hoiland, Nichole (Paul) Burgess/Peel, Leah (Aaron Swallow) Burgess, Matt (Daidre) Burgess, Sarah Rapp, Andrew (Shannon) Rapp; 11 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; 3 sisters, Gertrude, Helga, and Anna Marie; 3 brothers, Nels, Goodmund, and Jake. The family prefers memorials to Matt: 6 of Rock County, Hospice, or a charity of their choice.
