Tyron grew up on the family farm near George. He attended George Public School and graduated from George High School in 1971. He was united in marriage to Lynette Vagts on November 24, 1973 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in George. They made their home on a farm near Ashton for two years and then moved to the current farmstead north of George. They have lived there for thirty-one years and on this farm they raised their family of three boys. Tyron enjoyed wrestling, farming and people. He was an avid wrestling fan and was the first George wrestler to place in the state tournament. He officiated wrestling for many years until his own sons competed. In his heart he had a love of the land and a deep concern for people. Wherever he went he always enjoyed a good conversation, joke or even a bit of teasing to share with one another. Along with farming Tyron wore several hats. He was an auctioneer, real estate agent and an active community member. He served his church faithfully as a youth sponsor and a council member. Ty announced the 4th of July parade for many years and cried the pie auction. He also served on many civic boards and was instrumental in many of the things the George Development Corporation has been striving to achieve. Above all Tyron loved the Lord and his very dear wife and family. This past Thursday evening, June 11, 2009, Tyron died unexpectedly at his farm outside of George at the age of fifty-five. He is survived by his wife, Lynette of George; their sons, Matthew James of Plainfield, IL and his fianc, Mikelle Holt; Trevor Lee of Waconia, MN and his fianc, Emily Ulve and Reid Thomas of Ames, IA. Tyron was preceded in death by his mother, Byrla; father-in-law, Edward Vagts and maternal and paternal grandparents.
