John Korthals

George, IA John Korthals, age 102 of George, Iowa died Wednesday, April 3, 2013 at the George Good Samaritan Society. Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 5, 2013 at Immanuel Lutheran Church of George with Rev. John Wolf officiating. Burial will follow Evergreen Lawn Cemetery at George. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at Immanuel Lutheran Church in George. John Korthals was born January 9, 1911 near Hull, Iowa, the son of Henry and Lena (Mulder) Korthals. He attended country school and helped with the farming. In 1927 his family moved to White Lake, SD. John was united in marriage to Francis Mahler on May 18, 1934 in George, IA. John worked various places around George, such as the drug store, managed the movie theater, custodian at the public schools, before he drove the tank wagon for George Coop Oil for 35 years retiring in 1977. He was always quick to tell you that he wore out three new trucks in those 35 years. After his retirement he spent time helping George Summa with the gladiolas and cousin Ed on the farm. On July 18, 1984 Francis passed away after 50 years of marriage. He enjoyed word puzzles and will always be remembered for those famous Honest John stories. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in George, IA. John entered the George Good Samaritan Society on April 9, 2007, where he remained until this past Wednesday, April 3, 2013 where he died at the age of 102. He is survived by grandson, Michael Rael of Phoenix, AZ; seven great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; nieces, nephews and other extended family members. John was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Francis; daughter, Norma; granddaughter, Michelle Seeber; two infant brothers; sisters, Jen Hoogeveen, Gert Boone, Kate Gales, Leona Ramharter, Jean Fultz, and Grace Axemaker; brothers, Henry, Mason, Edward, Leonard, and Herman.
