Lyla C. Severson

Lyla C. Severson, age 92 of Fort Dodge, IA, formerly of Larchwood, IA died Friday, Dec. 31, 2010 at Tompkins Memorial Health Center in Fort Dodge, IA. Funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM, Tuesday, Jan. 4th at the United Church of Christ in Larchwood, IA, with Rev. Kelly Volk officiating. Burial will follow at Larchwood Cemetery in Larchwood, IA. Visitation will be Monday, Jan. 3rd from 4:00 to 7:00 PM, with the family present from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at the Jurrens Funeral Home of Larchwood. Lyla was born to Leslie and Ruth (Freeman) Rockhill August 22, 1918 in Larchwood, Iowa. She graduated from Larchwood High School. She went on to Cedar Falls Teachers College, graduated and then taught in country schools for 3 years. She was united in marriage to Segfred Severson June 4, 1939. They made their first home in Hudson, SD. They moved to Graceville, MN in 1942. In 1950 they moved to Larchwood and there they raised 6 children. Lyla was a homemaker. She was a member of the United Church of Christ in Larchwood. Lyla enjoyed watching her family, flowers, and playing cards. Seg and Lyla enjoyed retirement and visiting family. In 2002 they moved to Friendship Haven in Fort Dodge to be close to family. Lyla is survived by 5 children, Robert (June) of West Liberty IA, Carol (Don) Reinsch of Salina, KS, Richard (Donna) of Ellsworth, WI., Ruth (Dennis) Holland of Gilbert, AZ, Sharon (Sam) Moser of Fort Dodge; Daughter in-law, Beth Severson, of Red Wing, MN; 17 Grandchildren; 40 Great Grandchildren; and 1 Great Great Grandchild. Lyla was preceded in death by her husband of sixty-six years, Seg, her parents, Leslie and Ruth Rockhill, a son James, a grandson, Jeff Severson, and brother Laurence Rockhill. Lyla will always be remembered as a caring, patient, loving mother, sister, grandma, great-grandma and friend. Memorials may be sent to the Friendship Haven Care Trust Fund, 420 Kenyon Road, Fort Dodge, Iowa 50501
