Hills, MN Louis Lou Brouwer, age 81 of Hills, MN died Thursday, August 16, 2007, at the Tuff Memorial Home in Hills, MN. Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday, August 18th, at the Reformed Church of Steen, MN with Rev. Dan Ramaker, officiating. Burial will follow in the Eastside Cemetery at Steen, MN. Visitation will be Friday from 2:00 " 8:00 p.m. with the family present from 5:00 " 8:00 p.m. at the Roste Funeral Home of Hills. Louis Lou Brouwer was born September 10, 1925 at Remsen, Iowa, the son of Neal and Jenny (Mars) Brouwer. He was raised in the Remsen area and as a young person he and his family moved to Minnesota. Lou was united in marriage on December 21, 1945 to Gertrude Baar and made their home on a farm near Edgerton, MN, until moving to Woodstock, MN, where they lived for 22 years. In 1978 they moved to Steen, MN. Lou farmed for a number of years, ran a feed grinding business, along with other various businesses. In 2001, Lous wife, Gertrude died after 56 years of marriage. Lou was a member of the Reformed Church of Steen, MN. He enjoyed coffee, smoking his pipe and conversation with friends and family. He spoke often of his faith with his children, and loved playing with his grandchildren. In November of 2006, Lou entered the Tuff Memorial Home in Hills, MN, where he died this past Thursday, at the age of 81. He is survived by seven children, Joyce (and Vernon) Fick of Luverne, MN, Dean (and Carol) Brouwer of Lennox, SD, Evie (and Gary) Smith of Paynesville, MN, Rob (and Cherlyn) Brouwer of Luverne, MN, Sylvia (and Dale) Kontz of Woodstock, MN, Neal (and Peg) Brouwer of Beaver Creek, MN, and Russ Brouwer of Steen, MN; fifteen grandchildren; one step-grandchild; twenty-three great-grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Gertrude Brouwer; three brothers, John, Rich and Pete Brouwer; three sisters, Gert Vander Ziel, Sue Schaap, and Jeanette Kreun.
