Sibley, Iowa Viola Ole Wasmund, age 90 died Wednesday, March 14, 2012 at Sibley Nursing and Rehab Center. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM, Saturday, March 17th at St. Andrews Catholic Church in Sibley, IA, with Father John Vakulskas and Father Clair Boes as celebrants. Burial will follow at the church cemetery in Sibley. Visitation will be Friday, March 16th from 2:00 to 8:00 PM, with the family present from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Jurrens Funeral Home of Sibley. There will be a Rosary service at 5:00 PM and Vigil service at 7:30 PM at the funeral home Friday night. Viola Marie Wasmund was born on December 4, 1921 in Adrian, MN, the daughter of Peter John and Wilhelmina (Gerken) Winter. Ole attended Worthington public school and later graduated from Worthington High School. After meeting her husband to be, Sievert Wasmund at a dance in Rushmore they were later married on December 17, 1942 in Bigelow, MN. They made their home on a farm near Dundee, MN and later moved back to Bigelow to farm Sieverts Fathers land. Ole worked for the Campbells Soup Company for twenty-five years. She was a member of the St. Andrews Catholic Church in Sibley and served as a member of the Catholic Daughters for twenty-seven years. Ole enjoyed crocheting, knitting, quilting, playing pinochle with family and friends. Her favorite hobby was bowling twice a week and because she bowled so long, she was the oldest bowler by age. She is survived by five children, Daryl (Carolyn) Wasmund of Sibley, IA, Kathy (Doug) Fischer of Detroit Lakes, MN, Connie (Doug) Petersen of Bigelow, MN, Robert (Lori) Wasmund of Rushford, MN and Jeanette (Rod) Hiemstra of Sibley, IA; twenty-one grandchildren and thirty-eight great-grandchildren; one sister, Ila Murphy of Worthington, MN; many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Sievert on March 23, 2005; daughter, Ellen; two grandsons; one great-grandchild; six brothers, Alphonse, Victor, Edward, Harold, George and Buddy Winter; and three sisters, Lucille Jacobsma, Stella Tryon and Marcella Scully.
