George, IA Irene C. Staufacker, age 81 of George, IA, died Friday January 18th at the Good Samaritan Home in George, IA. Funeral Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tues. Jan. 22nd at Ebenezer Presbyterian Church in George. Burial will follow at the Evergreen Lawn Cemetery in George. Visitation will be Mon., Jan. 21st, from 2-8 p.m. with the family present from 6-8 p.m. at the Jurrens Funeral Home of George, IA. Irene Clara (Haupt) Staufacker was born January 29, 1926 at Freeman, SD, daughter of Emma Schmidt and Adolf Haupt. At the age of six weeks she moved to a farm near Bridgewater, SD with her parents and four sisters. She attended country school near Bridgewater and also school at Dolton, SD. She lived on the family farm near Bridgewater until she was a young adult at which time she moved to Sioux Falls where she worked at John Morrell and company until 1960. On February 14, 1960, she was united in marriage to Ivan Harold Staufacker at the First Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls, SD. She moved to rural George, IA and lived there with her husband on the family farm where three children, Michael, Jennifer and Eric were born. Ivan and Irene lived on this farm for 34 years. They retired June 8, 1994. After she was married, she was a full time housewife, mom and helped with farm work. At the age of 51, she became a nurses aide at the Sheldon Nursing Home. Irene was an avid reader, and she loved to work her gardens, from which her family enjoyed many years of delicious produce. She was an excellent cook. Irene was known for so many fine dishes, but one of the specialties that will stand out and be handed down to her childrens children is her Aunt Sally Cookies . Irene truly had the heart of a servant. She could never be heard complaining about anything, and she always put everyone elses needs before her own. She will be remembered by her family as a wonderful and loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Her work ethic and way of looking at life will always be remembered by those who knew her. Irene was a member of the Ebenezer Presbyterian Church in George where she was active in many church activities. She taught Sunday school and Bible school and was an active member of the U.P.W. This past Friday Irene died at the age of 81 at the Good Samaritan Center in George. Irene is survived by her husband of 47 years, Ivan; two sons, Michael of Minneapolis, MN, Eric and friend Angie McConnell of George; one daughter, Jennifer and husband Kyle Hansen of Irene, SD; two grandchildren, Trevor Hansen and Erin Hansen; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and four sisters.
