Lucille Schouwenburg

Hills, Minnesota Lucille Schouwenburg, age 87 of Hills, MN died Tuesday, May 27, 2014, at Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD with family by her side. Funeral service will be 2:30 PM Friday May 30, 2014 at Steen Reformed Church in Steen, MN with Rev. Dan Kuik officiating. Burial will follow at East Side Cemetery in Steen. Visitation will be Thursday May 29, 2014 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM with family present from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Jurrens Funeral Home of Hills, MN. Lucille Shouwenburg was born August 12, 1926 in Rock Rapids, IA to William and Tracy (Moss) Caswell. She was raised in the Rock Rapids area and graduated from Central Lyon in 1944. On March 3, 1948 she was united in marriage to Henry Schouwenburg. She and Henry farmed for many years on the family farm near Hills, MN where she helped her husband farm and was a homemaker raising their family of four children. In 1979 Lucilles husband Henry passed away after more than 30 years of marriage. She continued living on the farm until the early 80s when she bought a house and moved into Hills, MN. She worked at Tuff Nursing Home as a CNA for 15 years before her retirement. She was involved with many groups and hobbies over the years such as the Extension Club, The Opportunity Club, Ladies Aide and she greatly enjoyed going out for breakfast with the Coffee Club which was a group of co-workers from Tuff Memorial Nursing Home. She was also involved with her church along with being a Youth Sponsor. Lucille was a very talented craft person and enjoyed crocheting beautiful clothing for her many Dolls. She enjoyed playing cards, fishing and square dancing in Beaver Creek. This past Tuesday, May 27th Lucille passed away at Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD at the age of 87. She will be greatly missed. She is survived by her four children, Linda (Wayne) Yarrow of Harrisburg, SD, Melvin Schouwenburg of Mandan, ND, Sharon (Robert) Riddle of Luverne, MN, and Stanley (Terri) Schouwenburg of Hills, MN; six grandchildren, Kristi (Tom) Duncan of Albuquerque, NM, Lisa Berg of Sioux Falls, SD, Amber (Brett) Dessel of Sioux Falls, SD, Michelle (Ryan) Anderson of Sioux Falls, SD, Meagan Riddle and Melissa Riddle both of Luverne, MN; four great-grandchildren, Logan Dessel, Kylie Dessel, Braxton Anderson, and Hailey Riddle; sister, Evelyn Vanmalsen of Yorba Linda, CA; sisters-in-law, Ruth Caswell of Rock Rapids, IA, Marie Klarenbeeck of Luverne, MN, and Anna Schouwenburg of Hills, MN; brothers-in-law, Donald (Phyllis) Schouwenburg of Luverne, MN and Peter (Florence) Schouwenburg of California and other extended family members. Lucille was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Henry; sister, Harriet and husband John Klay; and brother, George Caswell.
