NOTICE: George, Iowa Alfred Fick, age 87, of Boyden, IA, died Thursday, March 22, 2012, at the Good Samaritan Center in George. The funeral service will be 10:30 AM Tuesday, March 27th, at St. John Lutheran Church " rural Boyden. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. Visitation will be Monday, March 26th, from 2:00 to 8:00 PM with the family present from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Jurrens Funeral Home in George, IA. Alfred Fritz William Fick was born on October 16, 1924, at Boyden, IA, the son of John and Marie (Bahlke) Fick. He was baptized on November 2, 1924. He was confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church on April 2, 1939. His Bible verse was Psalm 51:12. Alfred attended St. John Christian Day School near Boyden. On December 18, 1946, he was united in marriage to Elsie Winter. Together they farmed and operated a Registered Brown Swiss dairy until 1987. They retired and moved into Boyden in 1991. Alfred moved to the Good Samaritan Center in George on July 7, 2009. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church his entire life. He served on the church council and faithfully attended Bible class. In his younger years, he enjoyed Brotherhood and playing dart ball. He served on the Boyden Co-op and AMPI Boards. Alfred was a member of the Brown Swiss Association and exhibited his cattle at fairs. Alfred and Elsie traveled extensively. They attended many national Brown Swiss conventions. They enjoyed Senior Camps and tours sponsored by Okoboji Lutheran Bible Camp. Their international travels included Switzerland, Italy, Germany, and Australia. He is lovingly remembered by his wife of 65 years, Elsie; children, Linda (Kent) Olson of St. Paul, MN, Pastor John (Kathy) Fick of Grand Forks, ND, Carleen (Kevin) Ringgenberg of Springdale, AR, and Galen (Sandy) Fick of Boyden, IA; 6 grandchildren, Pastor Erik Olson of Elk Point, SD, Kyle Ringgenberg of Fort Worth, TX, Pastor Marie (David) Olson Purcell of San Antonio, TX, Matthew (Heidi) Fick of Williston, ND, Kari Ringgenberg of Springdale, AR, and Anna Fick of Grand Forks, ND; great granddaughter Elliot Kate Fick of Williston, ND; sister-in-law, Erma Fick of Hull, IA; brothers-in-law, Jurgen Oeding of Luverne, MN, Paul Albers of Adelaide, Australia; nieces, nephews, and other extended family members. Alfred was preceded in death by his parents, John and Marie Fick; brothers, Ferdinand, Rudolf; sisters, Anna Oeding, Larine Oeding, Erna Albers, still born sister; and brother-in-law Walter Oeding.
