Rodney James Krull was born March 11, 1955, in Sibley, IA, the son of Kenneth and Arlys (Goldhorn) Krull. Rod grew up on a farm north of George. He attended school in George and graduated from George High School in 1973. Rod was united in marriage to Janice Timmerman on December 7, 1974, at Bethel Reformed Church near Ellsworth, MN. The couple made their home on a farm northeast of Rock Rapids until 1987 when they moved to a farm northwest of George. In 2000, Rod and Janice then moved to the Family Century Farm north of George. Rod was a devoted husband, father, dairyman and crop farmer. Rod enjoyed showing cattle at all the area fairs as he grew up and watching his children show their cattle. His love for his family was never fading and he never passed up spending time with them. He enjoyed playing cards, eating ice cream and having some quick-witted humor and conversation. One of our cherished moments was Grandpa Rod holding his grandson for the first time. Rod was a member of Hope Reformed Church where he has served as a deacon and on various task force committees. He also served on the DHIA, AMPI, Lyon County Dairy Association and elevator boards. In March 2006, Rod was diagnosed with malignant melanoma. This past Friday morning, August 25, 2006, Rod died at his home at the age of fifty-one. He is survived by his wife of thirty-one years, Janice Krull of George; their children, Ryan and his wife, DeAnna Krull of George; Rachel and her husband, Rick Nielsen of Olathe, KS; Renae Krull of George and her fianc Micah Weber; and Reid Krull of George; one grandson, Jack Rodney Krull; parents, Kenneth and Arlys Krull of George; sister, Kalene Diephuis of Rochester, MN; brothers, Rick Krull of Fonda, IA, and Korey Krull of Rock Rapids, IA.
