Rock Rapids, IA Iva Ivy Haberkorn, age 86 of Rock Rapids, IA died Tuesday, December 16, 2008 at the Rock Rapids Health Centre in Rock Rapids. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 20th, 2008 at St. Edmunds Catholic Church in Watseka, IL, with Father Lee Ryan officiating. Burial will take place at Body Cemetery in Woodland, IL. Visitation will be Wednesday, December 17th from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with family present from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Jurrens Funeral Home of Rock Rapids, IA. There will also be a vigil service at 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home in Rock Rapids. Iva (Ivy) Ann Haberkorn was born in Earl Park, Indiana on August 25, 1922 to Edward and Marie (Lanoue) Broe. She was raised in rural Indiana and graduated from Earl Park High School. She later attended secretarial school and then worked as a secretary and receptionist for the Chamber of Commerce in Lafayette, Indiana. Iva was united in marriage with LaVerne Haberkorn on November 29, 1947. They farmed in rural Sheldon, Illinois for 50 years. They then lived in Watseka, Illinois for a number of years before moving to Rock Rapids, Iowa in 2002. Ivy was an active partner in the farming operation in Sheldon, Illinois. She also did part-time bookkeeping work, volunteered for a number of organizations and also served as an election judge for her local county. Ivy was a member of the St. Edmunds Catholic Church in Watseka, Illinois and the Holy Name Catholic Church in Rock Rapids, Iowa. Ivy loved the farming life and particularly enjoyed seeing the crops growing and being harvested. She was a great cook (being known for her meatloaf recipe), was an ace card player (euchre) and enjoyed spending time at her lake home in Indiana with her children and grandchildren. Everyone that knew Ivy enjoyed her sweet and kind disposition and friendly smile. She is survived by two children, Joyce (Roy) McConkey of Sycamore, IL, and Jim (Debbie) Haberkorn of Rock Rapids, IA; four grandchildren, Greg (Angela) McConkey of Sycamore, IL, Sarah (Nunzio) Maniaci of Genoa, IL, Ben (Colene) Haberkorn of Glendale, AZ and Allison (Tim) Kohlhaas of West DesMoines, IA; two great-grandchildren; sister, Jeannette Scherer of Frankfort, IN; and brother, Leonard Broe of Lafayette, IN. Iva was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Marie Broe; husband, LaVerne Haberkorn; daughter, Jayne Lowe; brothers, George and Russell; sisters, Irene, Bernice and Una.
