Ashton, IA Marie Meinen, age 96 formerly of Ashton, IA died Wednesday, August 17, 2011 at Sibley Nursing & Rehab Center in Sibley, IA. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM, Monday, August 22nd at St. Marys Catholic Church in Ashton, IA, with Father John Vakulskas as celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Marys Catholic Cemetery in Ashton. Visitation will be Sunday, August 21st with family present from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at the Jurrens Funeral Home of Ashton. There will also be a vigil service at 7:00 PM Sunday evening at the funeral Home. Marie Catherine Meinen was born September 3, 1914 to John and Mary Ney in Granville, Iowa. Marie was united in marriage to Louis Meinen of February 24, 1936 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Granville. The couple moved to Ashton, IA, and to this union eight children were born. She worked at St. Josephs Catholic School in Ashton as a cook. On February 5, 2003 Maries husband, Louis died after 66 years of marriage. She later entered Heartwood Heights Assisted Living Apartments in Sibley, IA. She is survived by seven children, Duane (Sharon) Meinen of Fairfield, IA, Betty (Lee) Ellerbroek of Osage Beach, MO, Daniel (Kathy) Meinen of Mt. Pleasant, IA, Richard (Aldine) Meinen of Kady, TX, Thomas (Nancy) Meinen of Okoboji, IA, William (Donna) Meinen of Sioux Falls, SD and Donna (Lou) Marczynski of New Braunfels, TX; twenty grandchildren; twenty-five great-grandchildren; three sisters, Rosie Koob, Fran Koob and Colleen Kitty Penning, all of Granville, IA; one brother, John Ney of Granville, IA; one sister-in-law Kathryn Ney of Orange City, IA; and many other extended family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Louis Meinen; one son, Ronald Meinen; three grandchildren, Kimberly Meinen, John Ellerbroek and Brian Marczynski; six brothers, Peter, Theodore, Lawrence, Anthony, Joseph and Robert Ney; and two sisters, Emma Graff and Elizabeth Ney.
