Elizabeth "Betty" Deboer

NOTICE: Rock Rapids, IA Elizabeth Betty DeBoer, age 84 of Rock Rapids, IA, died Tuesday, May 5, 2010 at the Sanford Hospital in Rock Rapids, IA. Funeral service will be 2:00 PM, Friday, May 7th at Christian Reformed Church of Rock Rapids with Rev. Cliff Hoekstra officiating. Burial will follow at Riverview cemetery in Rock Rapids. Visitation will be from Noon until time of service, Friday, May 7th Christian Reformed Church of Rock Rapids. Elizabeth Betty (Nyhuis) DeBoer was born on May 24, 1925, the daughter of Gerrit and Anna (Jongetjes) Nyhuis in Hull, IA. She attended country school for approximately three years and then finished grade school at the Hull Christian School through the seventh grade. For a time, Betty cleaned at the Rock Rapids Hospital. In the 1940s, Betty was an organist for the Christian Reformed Church in Rock Rapids, IA. On March 24, 1959, she was united in marriage to Peter DeBoer in Rock Rapids. For the first few years the couple lived in Nobles County near Adrian, MN, and then moved to Rock County near Hardwick, MN. Several years later they retired from farming and moved to Worthington, MN. While residing in Worthington, Pete and Betty worked as custodians at the American Reformed Church. Betty was a member of the Christian Reformed Church in Rock Rapids, IA. She loved farming in her younger days and always enjoyed Christian music. This past Wednesday, May 5, 2010, Betty passed away at the Sanford Hospital in Rock Rapids, IA, at the age of eighty-four. Betty is survived by her step-son, Rodney (wife, Laurie) DeBoer of Fairmont, MN; three grandchildren, Jenni (husband, Eric) Waterbury of Sioux Falls, SD and Sara and Melissa DeBoer of Fairmont, MN; five great-grandchildren, Tyler, Kylie, Emily and Makenzie Waterbury and Sophie DeBoer; one sister Anna (Nyhuis) Tilstra of Hills, MN; sister-in-law, Tillie Nyhuis; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Peter DeBoer in June of 1992; parents, Gerrit and Anna Nyhuis; one sister and brother-in-law, Hattie and Gradus Bouwman; and one brother, John Nyhuis.
