Fern Fischer

Little Rock, IA Fern L. Fischer, age 93 of Little Rock, IA died Monday, October 06, 2008 at the Osceola Community Hospital in Sibley, IA. Funeral Service will be 10:30 a.m., Thur. October 9th at the First Presbyterian Church in Little Rock, IA with Pastor Scott Burdsall officiating. Burial will follow in Pleasant View Cemetery in Little Rock. Visitation will be Wed., October 8th from 2-8 p.m. with family present from 6-8 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Little Rock, IA. Fern Lucille Fischer was born March 19, 1915 to Ollie and Nellie (Anderson) Peters in Little Rock, IA. She received her education from Little Rock High School. On April 23, 1932 she was united in marriage to Leonard Fischer in Sioux Falls, SD. The couple made their home in Little Rock. To this union two children were born, Shirley and Lennis. She and her husband farmed near Little Rock until their retirement in the late 1970s. In her earlier years Fern worked at the hospital in Little Rock. She was an active member of her church as long as she was able and served in the Happy Hour Society. She also served in the Womens Club. Sewing was a lifelong interest for Fern. Her children and grandchildren will cherish the many items their Grandma made for them. She also liked to knit and crochet. Fern was a wonderful cook and was known for her delicious pies and cakes. She baked the wedding cakes for her grandchildrens weddings as well as for others in her community. Her family will remember her as a truly loving person. She will be missed by many. Fern is survived by her two children, Shirley Christians of Little Rock and Lennis (Sandy) Fischer of Alton, IA; five grandchildren, Lori (Erwin) Arends of Little Rock, Julia (Ray) Christians of Edina, MN, Karla (Chris) Franzen of Mundlien, IL, Kimberly (Gary) Culver of Vermillion, SD, and Melinda (Naboth) Netten of Alton, IA; 15 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren; brothers, Jack (Darlene) Peters of Little Rock, IA, and Gene (Gwen) Peters of Little Rock, IA. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ollie and Nellie Peters; her husband of 62 years, Leonard Fischer; brother, Vernon Peters; sisters, Anna Mae LaCour and Arlene Ubbinga.
