Emma Meyer

Emma Meyer, age 97 of Rock Rapids,IA died Tuesday, August 1, 2006 at Merrill Pioneer Community Hospital in Rock Rapids. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Friday at the Apostolic Christian Church in Lester with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 3-5 p.m. and from 6-8 p.m with the family present at the Apostolic Christian Church Fellowship Hall in Lester. Emma Marie (Metzger) Meyer was born August 19, 1908, in Lyon County, on a farm near Lester, Iowa, the daughter of Fred and Karoline (Knobloch) Metzger. She was united in marriage to Alvia W. Meyer in Sioux Falls, SD on December 21, 1932. They lived at Oneida, KS for several months and moved back to Lyon County Iowa. They lived north of Lester on farms until moving to Lester in 1969. Alvia passed away in 1973 and Emma moved to Rock Rapids in the fall of 2000. Emma loved being a homemaker and mother. Her family was near and dear to her and she especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Emma took great pride in her flower gardens and always liked to keep busy. She was a lifelong member of the Apostolic Christian Church in Lester. Emma died this past Tuesday morning, August 1, 2006 at the Merrill Pioneer Community Hospital in Rock Rapids at the age of ninety-seven. She is survived by her children; Mary Lou (Don dec.) Streitmatter of Princeville, IL; Doreen Meyer of Rock Rapids; Raymond (Twyla) Meyer of Rock Rapids; Carolyn (Robert) Banwart of West Bend, IA; George (Charlyn dec.) Meyer of Lester, IA; Margaret (Eli) Grimm, West Bend, IA; Irene (Dean dec.) Banwart of West Bend, IA; Earl (Barb) Meyer of Brandon, SD; Paulette (Norman) Zaugg of Rolfe, IA and Lila (Mike) Wirtz of Goodfield, IL; forty-nine grandchildren; ninety-three great grandchildren; three sisters, Freida (Andy) Mogler of Rock Rapids; Lydiann (Carl) Wyss and Pearline Streitmatter of Washington, IL; two brothers, Elmer (Mariann) Metzger of Lester and Roy (Evelyn) Metzger of Bloomfield, IL.
