Myrtle Iona Behr

Rock Rapids, Iowa Myrtle I. Behr, age 91of Rock Rapids, IA died Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2011 at Lyon Manor Nursing & Rehab Center in Rock Rapids, IA. Funeral services will be 10:30 AM, Saturday, Feb. 12th at Jurrens Funeral Home of Rock Rapids, with Rev. Dan Kordahl officiating. Burial will follow at Ebenezer Stateline Cemetery in rural Rock Rapids. Visitation will be Friday, Feb. 11th from 2:00 to 7:00 PM, with the family present from 6:00 to 7:00 PM at Jurrens Funeral Home of Rock Rapids. Myrtle Iona (Haugan) Behr was born on January 8, 1920, the oldest of eight children to Albert and Alma (Berg) Haugan. On January 30, 1941, she was united in marriage to Peter Behr at the Ebenezer (Stateline) Presbyterian Church north of Rock Rapids. Following their marriage Myrtle and Pete farmed the same farm on which Pete was born. In 1969 they retired and continued to live on the farm and in 1986 Myrtle and Pete moved into their home in Rock Rapids. Myrtle was active in 4H and Farm Bureau Clubs for many years. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, playing the organ and piano. She was a longtime member of the Ebenezer (Stateline) Presbyterian Church where she was active in their Womens Group, the Choir as well as being a church deacon for several years. After the church disbanded she attended and joined the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Rock Rapids. Myrtle has been a resident of Lyon Manor for many years. Myrtle is survived by one daughter, Marlene Henneberg of El Segundo, CA; son-in-law, Keith Schroeder of Rock Rapids, IA; five grandchildren, Brian (wife, Ruth) Schroeder of Sheboygan, Wisconsin, Todd Schroeder of Huntington Beach, CA, Melanie (husband, Charlie) Peterson of Hanover, MN, Tom (wife, Lisa) Henneberg of Washington DC and Ryan (wife, Janis) Henneberg of Westwood, CA; four great grandchildren and two great great-grandchildren; three brothers, Gilbert and Raymond Haugan both of Sioux Falls, SD and Norman Haugan of Vermillion, SD; one sister, Luella Lacy of Salem, SD; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Pete; one daughter, Beverly Schroeder; three brothers, Herbert, Clifford, and Vernon Haugan; and grandson, Jeffery Schroeder in infancy.
