Sibley, Iowa Hilda Majerus, age 94 of Sibley, IA died Wednesday, July 27, 2011 at the Sanford Senior Care Center in Sheldon, IA. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM, Monday, August 1st at St. Andrews Catholic Church in Sibley, with Father John Vakulskas as celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Andrews Catholic Cemetery in Sibley. Visitation will be Sunday, July 31st from 2:00 to 6:00 PM, with the family present from 4:00 to 6:00 PM at the Jurrens Funeral Home in Sibley. There will be a rosary at 4:00 PM and vigil service at 5:00 PM. Hilda Rose Majerus was born on May 9, 1917, the daughter of Mike and Margaret (Diederich) Fisch in Granville, IA. She was raised in the Granville area and educated at the St. Joseph Catholic School there. On February 5, 1945, she was united in marriage to John W. Majerus in Granville, IA. The couple farmed near Marcus, IA until 1949, then Melvin, IA until 1970, when they moved to Sibley. Hilda started working for Campbell Soup Company on March 11, 1963 and retired on January 1, 1981. She was a member of St. Andrews Catholic Church. Hilda was a fifty year member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas. She enjoyed sewing, making rug rags and quilts for her grandchildren and great grandchildren, wrapping hangers with yarn, gardening, fishing and collecting many salt and pepper shakers. Hilda especially loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Hilda is survived by three children, Francis (Julie) Majerus of Rushmore, MN, Cathryn (Harold) Curtis of Sibley, IA and Nancy (Roger) Marco of Sibley, IA; fourteen grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John W. Majerus; one sister; one brother; and a daughter, Mary Majerus.
