Hills, MN Chris Van Wyhe, age 82 of Hills, MN died suddenly Tuesday, December 22, 2009 at the Tuff Village in Hills, MN. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 29, 2009, at The Reformed Church of Steen with Rev. Dan Kuik, officiating. Burial will follow in the Eastside Cemetery at Steen, MN. Visitation will be Monday, Dec. 28th from 3:00 " 6:00 p.m. with the family present from 4:00 " 6:00 p.m. at The Reformed Church of Steen. Chris Van Wyhe was born September 17, 1927, in Lyon County Iowa, the son of Henry and Christina (Berghuis) Van Wyhe. He was raised and attended country school in Lyon County until his family moved to a farm west of Hills, Minnesota. He completed his eighth grade education at Hills School and helped his family with the day to day operation of the farm. Chris was united in marriage to Grace Hoff on June 21, 1946, at the brides parents farm near Steen, MN. The couple farmed north of Hills, MN for over 50 years then moved to a farm east of Hills. On January 7, 2006, Chriss wife, Grace died after 59 years of marriage. On December 22, 2009, Chris retired from farming. Chris was a member of the Reformed Church of Steen, Lions Club of Hills, and the FFA Alumni. He enjoyed all farming activities, fishing, playing cards, bowling with friends at the Village, and spending time with family and friends. In October 2007, Chris moved into the Tuff Village in Hills, MN and remained there until this past Tuesday, December 22, 2009, where he died suddenly at the age of 82. He is survived by five children, Carlene (husband, John) DeKam of Grand Haven, MI, Gloria (husband, Stan) Bonnema of Waconia, MN, Marsha (husband, Gerhart) Baker of Owasso, OK, Darwyn Van Wyhe of San Diego, CA, and Terry Van Wyhe (wife, Tammy) Copper Center, AK; Nine grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; a brother, Henry Van Wyhe of Hills, MN; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded by his parents, Henry and Christina Van Wyhe; his wife, Grace Van Wyhe; a son, Conley Van Wyhe; a grandson, Joel DeKam; six brothers, James, Gerrit, William, Cornie, Al, John, and an infant sister.
