Rock Rapids, Iowa Lila Brower, age 83 of Rock Rapids, IA died Friday, February 8, 2013 at Lyon Manor Nursing and Rehab in Rock Rapids, IA. Memorial Service will be 1:30 p.m. Monday, February 11, 2013 at Congregational United Church of Christ in Rock Rapids, IA with Rev. Steve Swenson, officiating. Burial will take place prior to the service at 12:30 p.m. at Riverview Cemetery in Rock Rapids. Visitation will be Sunday, February 10th from 2:00 " 8:00 p.m. with the family present from 6:00 " 8:00 p.m. at the Jurrens Funeral Home of Rock Rapids. Lila Jean (Hass) Brower was born April 15, 1929, at Doon, Iowa the daughter of Elmer and Elsie (Mast) Hass. Lila grew up on the family farm near Doon. She attended Doon country school and then graduated from Doon High School in 1945. After graduation she continued her education at National Business Training School in Sioux City, IA. She started her employment at Allbright Abstract in Rock Rapids for two years and then worked for Lyon County State Bank in Rock Rapids for the next five years. She continued her employment for the next twenty-eight and a half years at the Lyon County Treasurers office, retiring on April 15, 1994. Lila was united in marriage to Cornie Brower on November 3, 1948 at Rock Rapids. Lila and Cornie were blessed with two children, Jeffrey and Jerilynn. Lila was a longtime member of the Congregational United Church of Christ in Rock Rapids where she was active in the Mayflower Guild and sang in the choir. Lila enjoyed letter writing, sending cards, cooking and baking. She and Cornie took several trips in their retirement years and they also were part of a pinochle club for 52 years. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. Lila became a resident of the Lyon Manor Nursing and Rehab Center in Rock Rapids where she died this past Friday morning, February 8, 2013 at the age of eighty-three. She is survived by her husband, Cornie Brower of Rock Rapids; two children Jeffrey and his wife, Mary Brower of Spokane, WA and Jerilynn and her husband, Wally Walker of Brooklyn Park, MN; grandchildren, Erin (Neil) Jacobson and their children Bridger and Porter of Spokane, WA; Weston Walker of Tallahassee, FL and Whitney Walker of Golden Valley, MN and her brother, Norman (Marilyn) Hass of Rock Rapids; along with many nieces and nephews. Lila was preceded in death by her parents, Elmer and Elsie; sister and brother-in-law, Jodene and Chuck Hanson.
