Rock Rapids, IA Floyd R. Ver Hoef, 75 of Rock Rapids, IA died Tuesday, May 3, 2011 at Sanford Hospital in Rock Rapids, IA. Funeral service will be 10:30 AM, Saturday, May 7, at the United Methodist Church in Rock Rapids, with Rev. Anita Bane officiating. Burial will follow at the Evergreen Lawn Cemetery in George, IA. Visitation will be Friday, May 6th from 2 to 8 PM with family present from 6 to 8 PM at the Jurrens Funeral Home of Rock Rapids, IA. Floyd Raymond Ver Hoef was born May 22, 1935 in Midland Township to William and Mina (Dirks) Ver Hoef. He was raised in George, IA and attended George Community School through the 11th grade and graduated from Rock Rapids High School in 1955. He served in the National Guard for two years. On August 30, 1958 he was united in marriage to Carol Hollander at the Ebenezer Presbyterian Church in George. The couple was married for 52 years. Earlier in life he worked for Culligan in Rock Rapids and then P & W Ford. He then worked for Wildeman Ford, McCormack Transportation, and Bob Lucas Ford. In 1970 he began working at Spencer Motors. On November 7, 1972 he purchased the Ford dealership in Rock Rapids and called it Rock Rapids Ford. Floyd dedicated forty plus years with Ford Motor Company. He also had the thrill of making a hole in one at the Ford Gold Tournament. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Rock Rapids and served as Sunday School Treasurer. He was a member of the American Legion Post 103 of Rock Rapids. A very special time in Floyds life was when he was inducted in the Central Lyon Hall of Fame. He enjoyed golfing, bowling, billiards, keeping clock at basketball games, attending athletic events and watching sports on TV. Floyd also enjoyed his time with the early morning coffee group and his numerous pinochle and golf buddies. He was a devoted husband, loving brother, uncle, father and grandfather who cherished his family. His granddaughter was the apple of his eye and he loved watching her play sports. Mackenzie honors her grandfather by sporting his basketball jersey #22. This past Tuesday evening, May 3, 2011, Floyd died at the Sanford Hospital in Rock Rapids at the age of seventy-five. He is survived by his wife, Carol of Rock Rapids, IA; daughter, Lisa Hewitt and her husband, Doug of Urbandale, IA; granddaughter, Mackenzie Hewitt of Urbandale, IA; sisters, Judy (CJ) Gustafson, Wilma Miller and Karen (Denton) Olson all of Rock Rapids, IA; aunt, Sena Dietz of George; brother-in-law, Daryl (Glenda) Hollander of Hollister, MO; sister-in-law, Jan Mahler of Aurora, CO; along with many nieces and nephews. Floyd was preceded in death by his parents, William and Mina Ver Hoef; brothers-in-law, Gene Miller and Paul Mahler; parents-in-law, Herman and Marie Hollander and uncle, Jake Dietz.
