Agnes McCarty, age 96, died Tuesday Nov. 23rd, 2010 at Rock Rapids Health Centre in Rock Rapids, IA. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM, Saturday, Nov. 27th at The Church of St. Mary in Larchwood, IA, with Fr. Jeff Schleisman and Fr. Larry McCarty officiating. Burial will follow at the Catholic Cemetery in Alvord, IA. Visitation will be Friday, Nov. 26th from 3:00 to 8:00 PM, with the family present from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at The Church of St. Mary in Larchwood. There will be a Vigil service held at 7:00 PM Friday evening at the church. Agnes McCarty was born February 27, 1914 on the family farm near Doon, Iowa, to John and Ann (Kelly) Kramer. She received her education at the country school which was one mile north of her home near Doon and also attended St. Marys Catholic School in Larchwood. She was united in marriage to Tom McCarty on April 7, 1932. She was a life time member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Alvord, IA, an active member of the Altar Society. She was a wonderful cook and always had coffee and cookies ready for anyone who might stop by, and if it happened to be dinner of supper time they were always welcome at her table. She and Tom loved to travel and made many trips around the country in their motor home. She enjoyed tending her flowers. They also enjoyed playing cards and taking part in local card clubs playing pinochle and pitch. But mostly Agnes enjoyed spending time with her family. They will remember her fondly. She has left her grandchildren with wonderful heirlooms in special embroidered tea towels. This past Tuesday, Agnes died at the Rock Rapids Health Centre at the age of 96. She will be greatly missed. Agnes is survived by daughter, Marlene Doherty; son, John (Eunice) McCarty; son, Paul (Marge) McCarty all of Larchwood; daughter, Judy (Bob) Reese of Luverne, MN; daughter-in-law, Denise McCarty of Council Bluffs, IA; 34 grandchildren; 69 great-grandchildren; 30 great great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Alice Wagner of Spencer, IA; and many other extended family members. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 73 years, Tom McCarty; sons, Tom McCarty and Mike McCarty; daughter-in-law, Martha McCarty; son-in-law, Paul Ripperda; and grandchildren, Donald McCarty and Barb Jones.
