Caroline Riebeling

Thornton, CO Caroline Riebeling, age 86 of Thorton, CO died Monday morning, February 12, 2007, at her home in Thorton, CO. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Lyon County Presbyterian Church of George with Rev. Paul Fischer, officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Lawn Cemetery at George. Visitation will be Friday from 2-8 p.m. with the family present from 6-8 p.m. at the Roste Funeral Home of George. Caroline Riebeling was born July 19, 1920 near Matlock, Iowa. Her parents were Leonard and Tena (Zordrager) Scholten. She graduated from the George Commnity High School. She continued her educational career at St. Joseph Hospital in Sioux City where she became a registered nurse. She started her long career in nursing at the Hull Hospital. Later moving to rural George, she worked at the Merrill Pioneer Hospital in Rock Rapids. Caroline was a long-time member of the Hope Reformed Church. In 1970, she moved to Sioux Falls where she finished her nursing career at the McKennan Hospital. Upon retirement in 1985, Caroline moved to Denver, Colorado to be closer to her children and grandchildren. She transferred her church membership to the First Avenue Presbyterian Church in Denver where she was a dedicated member until her death. On January 24, 1945, Caroline was united in marriage to Rudolph (Rudy) Riebeling. Rudy and Caroline were blessed with four children -- Mary Lou (Eduardo) Lucero, Edna Mae Busse, Dale and Glenda Riebeling. Caroline loved caring for her grandchildren, sewing flannel baby blankets and reading local Iowa newspapers. Caroline is survived by her daughters, Mary Lou (Eduardo) Lucero; Edna Mae Busse, and Glenda Riebeling of Denver, CO; grandchildren, Eduardo (Erin) Lucero, Carlos Lucero, Louisa (Daniel) Cardenas and Francisco Lucero; three great-grandchildren, Christopher and Robin Lucero and Autumn Caroline Cardenas; also surviving are brothers, Gene and Gert Scholten, Leonard and Roberta Scholten; and sister, Sally Scholten; brothers-in-law, Duane Buttenob, Wallace and Florence Winter and many nieces and nephews. Caroline was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Rudy Riebeling; son, Dale Riebeling; brother, John Scholten; sisters, Lena Mae Winter and Christina Buttenob and two infant siblings.
