NOTICE: Rock Rapids, Iowa Marvin Albers age 76 of Rock Rapids, IA died Monday, July 11, 2011 at the Sanford Hospital in Rock Rapids. Funeral service will be 10:30 AM, Wednesday, July 13, 2011 at the First Reformed Church in Rock Rapids with Rev. Dan Haggar and Rev. Katie Van Veldhuizen officiating. Burial will follow in the Riverview Cemetery in Rock Rapids. Visitation will be Tuesday, July 12th from 2:00 to 8:00 PM, with the family present from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Jurrens Funeral Home of Rock Rapids. Marvin George Albers was born October 19, 1934 near Sibley, IA to Arend and Jennie (Olthoff) Albers. When Marvin was a young child, his mother Jennie died. At that time he went to live with and was raised by his Uncle and Aunt, Hank and Clara Kruger. He was raised in the Ocheydan area and graduated from Sibley High School in 1953. Marvin then joined the United States Army and served his country by spending time in Germany. Upon his return he was united in marriage to Melva Petersen in Ocheydan, IA. To this union one child was born. In 1971 Marvin married Jane (Van Aartsen) Lens at State Line Church. The couple lived in Rock Rapids until 1977; they then moved to Currie, MN and returned to Rock Rapids in 1989. Marvin had many jobs throughout his life, the most recent being with Pettengill Concrete and Gravel in Rock Rapids. Marvin loved spending time with his family and friends. He especially liked fishing for walleye at Lake Shetek, playing pinochle, and hunting for asparagus. This past Monday, Marvin died at the Sanford Hospital in Rock Rapids at the age of 76. He will be greatly missed. Marvin is survived by his wife, Jane Albers; children, Kevin (Lori) Lens of Ellsworth, MN, Julia Gardner of Sioux Falls, SD, Kimberly (Conrad) Carson of Mitchell, SD, Natalie (Jason) Scott of Sioux Falls, SD, Jason (Kimberly) Albers of Rock Rapids, IA; grandchildren, Ashley and Emily Lens of Ellsworth, MN, Abigail and Aiden Carson of Mitchell, SD, Erskine Scott of Sioux Falls, SD, Jayden Albers of Rock Rapids, IA; sisters, Donna Sterler of Sibley, IA, Leona Eben of Sibley, IA; brother, Robert (Betty) Kruger of Sibley, IA; and other extended family members. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Steven Lens; brother, Ronald Kruger; and other extended family members.
