Sibley, IA Audrey Schulte age 88 of Sibley, IA died Saturday, September 15, 2012 at the Sibley Nursing and Rehab Center in Sibley, IA Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday September 18, 2012 at United Methodist Church in Sibley with Rev. Shannon Pascual officiating. Burial will follow at Holman Township Cemetery in Sibley. Visitation will be Monday, September 17th from 3 " 8 p.m. with family present from 6 " 8 p.m. at the Jurrens Funeral Home of Sibley. Audrey L. Schulte was born July 12, 1924 in Sibley, IA to Harold and Lillian (Bell) Attig. She was raised in Sibley and graduated from Sibley High School. She continued her education at Texas Tech in Lubbock, TX in the fall of 1942 studying Business and English. She met Neil the fall of 1943. He was in the Air Force and stationed at Tech for pre-flight training. He was later transferred to Bakersfield, CA. Audrey and Neil were married in Aunt Gertrude Bells home in Hollywood, CA August 2, 1944. Neil transferred to Colorado Springs and Audrey worked at Peterson Field for the transportation officer. The couple was transferred to Muskogee, OK, then to Monterey, CA, before Neil was shipped to England on the Queen Mary. During this time Audrey moved back to the farm with her folks, Harold and Lillian Attig. Daughter Sannie Lee was born in Sibley June 8, 1945. They lived in the Sibley area for several years, and then moved to St. Louis where they lived for almost 20 years. While in St. Louis, Audrey worked as an editor for the Miss Howers Correspondence Consulting firm. The business was charged with taking in letters and professional documents submitted by business men and correcting spelling, grammar and general clean up of the documents for a professional appearance. Neil worked at McDonnell-Douglas in the research and development department. He worked on Mercury and Gemini " the first space vehicles and knew the first astronauts, John Glenn, Gus Grissom, Wally Schirra, Alan Shepard and so on. They then moved to Colorado for about 10 years where Neil worked on the external fuel tank for the Space Shuttle. Then they moved to Dallas where he worked on the B-2 Stealth Bomber at L.T.V. They did lots of moving since Neil worked for C.D.I., a consulting and designing company in Philadelphia. They built a retirement home on Audreys home farm west of Sibley. Their daughter Sannie passed away in December of 2000 and Neil passed away in November of 1998. So, Audrey was living alone with her many cats. A little over 3 years ago Audrey moved to Heartwood Heights. When Audrey moved to Heartwood apartments, she brought along Yeltsen Wheeler, her house cat. They had lived together for 15 years. Yeltson passed away in December of 2010. So now, they have joined Neil and a number of family members. She made Winnie the Pooh stuffed animals for her grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was known for her telling of stories to her grandchildren. She would tell wonderful creative stories of Sniffles the Mouse . She was fond of quilting and needle work. Many family members have a quilt Audrey made. She also liked to work in her garden and loved family dinners. She is survived by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Craig (Raelynne) Blackwell and their children, Morgan, Maddie and Ian all of Sheridan, WY; Chad (Kristy) Blackwell and their children Taylor and Ella of Chandler, AZ; sister, Marilyn (Roger) Huisenga of Sibley; son-in-law, Robert (Gayle) Blackwell of Powell, WY; nieces, nephews and other extended family members. Audrey was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Neil; daughter, Sannie; and brother, Harold R. Attig.
