Hills, MN Kenneth Ken Vanden Berg, age 56 of Hills, MN died Tuesday, December 30, 2008, at his home in Hills, MN. Funeral service will be 10:00 AM Friday, January 2, 2009 at the American Reformed Church in Luverne, MN with Reverend Dave Sikkema officiating. Burial will follow in the Maplewood Cemetery of Luverne. Visitation will be Thursday, January 1st, from 2:00 - 8:00 PM with the family present from 6:00 - 8:00 PM at the Jurrens Funeral Home of Hills, MN. Ken was born on November 21, 1952, the son of Jacob and Martha (Boer) Vanden Berg in Pipestone, MN. He grew up in Pipestone and graduated from Pipestone High School. On July 18, 1975, he was united in marriage to Elaine Vander Ziel in Pipestone, MN. After their marriage they lived in Sibley, Iowa for five years and then moved to Hills, Minnesota where they made their home for the past twenty-eight years. Ken worked for John Van Diepen when they lived in Sibley, and after they moved to Hills he worked for IBP in Luverne, MN for ten years and for the last twenty, Manley Tire & Oil in Manley, MN, traveling with the on-the-farm service truck to different sites to fix and change tires. He enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle and especially loved spending time with his family and friends. Ken is survived by his wife of thirty-three years, Elaine Vanden Berg of Hills; three children and seven grandchildren; Lisa (husband Randy) Sasker and their four children, Cody 8, Lacey 4, Sawyer 3, and Layne 1, John Vanden Berg, and Linda (husband Adam) Uithoven and their three children, Harrison 4, Rydell 3, and Franklin 5 months, all of Luverne, MN; his mother, Martha Vanden Berg of Richfield, MN; eight siblings, Donna West of Topeka, KS, Calvin (wife Janie) Vanden Berg of Pipestone, MN, Milton (wife Gwen) Vanden Berg of Pipestone, Judith Vanden Berg of Richfield, MN, David (wife Dawn) Vanden Berg of Hutchinson, MN, Mark Vanden Berg of Willis, TX, Phillip Vanden Berg of Toyko, Japan and Norma (husband Elwin) Brands of Edgerton, MN; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father Jacob Vanden Berg; his father-in-law and mother-in- law, John and Gert Vander Ziel.
