Lois Selken

Rock Rapids, IA Lois Selken, age 85 of Rock Rapids, IA died Wednesday, May 21 2008 at the Lyon Manor Nursing Home in Rock Rapids, IA. Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday May 24, 2008 at the United Methodist Church in Rock Rapids with Rev. Anita Bane officiating. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery in Rock Rapids, IA. Visitation will be Friday, May 23rd from 2 " 8 p.m. with family present from 6 - 8 p.m. at the Jurrens Funeral Home of Rock Rapids. Lois Selken was born January 16, 1923 in Doon, Iowa, the daughter of Albert and Clara (Holtz) Bauer. She graduated from Doon High School in 1942. She started housecleaning and worked at various coffee shops as a waitress and bartender. She then later worked at K-Products in Rock Rapids for nine years, retiring because of health issues. She also babysat for a few years. She loved visiting her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and enjoyed bowling and playing cards. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Rock Rapids. In 2008 she became a resident at Lyon Manor Nursing & Rehab Center in Rock Rapids. She is survived by three children, Michael (wife Lynn) Selken of Rock Rapids, IA, Marlys (husband Ed) Brown of Rock Rapids, IA and Randy Selken of Knoxville, IA; fourteen grandchildren; twenty-two great-grandchildren; brother, Norman Bauer of San Dimas, CA; and many other extended family. She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Clara Bauer; a daughter, RoxAnn Birkeland; three brothers, Donald Bauer, Clarence Bauer and Francis Bauer; one sister, Bernice Lorenzen; and two nephews, Jim Brower and Jack Brower.
