Rock Rapids, IA Catherine Hoogers, age 90 of Rock Rapids, IA died February 19, 2010 at Lyon Manor Nursing & Rehab Center in Rock Rapids. Memorial service will be 11:00 AM Tuesday, February 23, 2010 at the First Reformed Church in Rock Rapids, with Reverend Dan Haggar and Reverend Katie Van Veldhuizen officiating. Burial will be private with family prior to the service in the Riverview Cemetery of Rock Rapids. Visitation will be Monday, February 22nd from 4:00 " 7:30 PM, with the family present from 6:00 " 7:30 PM at the Jurrens Funeral Home of Rock Rapids. Catherine Hoogers was born on July 15, 1919, the daughter of Marinus and Areke (De Goei) Klarenbeek on a farm southeast of George, Iowa. She grew up in the Rock Rapids area, and was one of nine children. On November 30, 1943, she was united in marriage to Abraham Hoogers. The couple farmed in the Rock Rapids area until 1988, when they retired and moved into town. Catherine was a member of the First Reformed Church in Rock Rapids, where she was active in the Dorcus Circle. She was also a member of a friendship coffee group with neighbors. Catherine loved farm life and liked to be outside in her flower garden, her neighbors always commented on her beautiful roses. She enjoyed crocheting and knitting. She especially liked to get together with family and friends to play cards and other games. Catherine is survived by four sons, Arnie (wife, Glenda) of Sheldon, IA, Harry (wife, Mavis) of Johnston, IA, Jerry (wife, Carolyn) of Maple Grove, MN and Carl (wife, Lisa) of Armour, SD; daughter-in-law, Mary (Stanley) Schoneman of Steen, MN; sixteen grandchildren, and twelve great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Johanna Klarenbeek of Rock Rapids and Marie Klarenbeek of Luverne, MN; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Abe; parents; her son, Delbert; five brothers, Henry, Arthur, Gerrit, Gilbert, and Cebus Klarenbeek; three sisters, Hattie Klein, Marie Klarenbeek, and Bertha Klarenbeek in infancy.
