Marie Pearl Bruns

Ashton, IA Marie P. Bruns, age 67 of Ashton, IA died Monday, August 1, 2011 at her home in Ashton after a courageous battle with cancer. There will be a private family service, Friday, August 5, 2011 at the Jurrens Funeral Home of Ashton. Burial will follow in the Gilman Township Cemetery of Ashton. Visitation for the public will be Thursday, August 4th from 2-8 p.m. with the family present from 6-8 p.m. at the Jurrens Funeral Home of Ashton. Marie Pearl Bruns, daughter of Henry and Martha (Niehaus) Renken, was born on February 14, 1944 in Ashton, Iowa. Her family later moved to a farm by Ocheyedan, Iowa, where she received her education. Marie was united in marriage to Marvin Roger Bruns on October 4, 1963 at Allendorf, Iowa. To this union one son, Curtis, and one daughter Vickie was born. They lived in Sibley, Iowa then moved to Ashton, Iowa. Marie worked at N.C.C. College for seven years, and Sheldon Hospital for nine years. She liked watching movies on T.V., visiting with friends at Happy Hour and Tea Time and remodeling houses. Marie is survived by one son, Curtis Bruns of Ashton, Iowa; one daughter, Vickie (Matt) Stellinga of Sheldon, Iowa; two grandchildren, Tara Ferguson and Zachary Stellinga; one sister, Margaret (Melvin) Janssen of Bigelow, Minnesota; two brothers, Russel (Donna) Renken and Lester (Marcella) Renken both of Sibley, Iowa; four sisters-in-law, Carol (Steve) Perry, LeAnn (Butch) Gerken, Diane Redinius and Phylis Bruns; two brothers-in-law, Gordon (Bonny) Bruns and Randy Bruns; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin Roger Bruns in December 1974; parents, Henry and Martha Renken; infant sister, Lois Renken; sister, Dora Norman; and four brothers-in-law, Richard, Lawrence, Robert Bruns and Arlon Norman.
