Larchwood, IA Alice Susie age 89 of Larchwood, IA died Tuesday, July 24, 2012 at the Tuff Memorial Home in Hills, MN. Funeral services will be 10:30 AM Friday, July 27th at English Lutheran Church in Larchwood, IA, with Rev. Mark Hanson officiating. Burial will follow at Richland Cemetery in Inwood, IA. Visitation will be Thursday, July 26th from 4:00 to 8:00PM, with the family present from 6:00 to 8:00PM at the Jurrens Funeral Home of Larchwood. Alice Lucille Susie was born October 30, 1922 near Madison, Minnesota, the daughter of Morgan H. and Emma (Reimers) Helgersen. As a young child she and her family lived various places such as Sioux City, IA, Rock Rapids, IA and Larchwood, IA. She graduated from Larchwood High School. After her education she volunteered as a transport truck driver during WWII in Sioux Falls at the air field. She continued her education in nursing, graduating with her LPN degree. She began working at McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls and then the Royal C. Johnson Veterans Hospital in Sioux Falls. She retired after 20 years of service in nursing profession. She was a member of the English Lutheran Church in Larchwood, the Flessner American Legion Post No. 561 Womens Auxiliary in Larchwood and also very active with several other community activities. She enjoyed playing bingo, cards, bowling and watching sports on TV. Most of all she loved spending time with her family. She is survived by her two sons, Leon Susie of Larchwood, IA and Linn (Mary Jo) Susie of Steen, MN; four grandchildren, Ryan Susie of Sioux Falls, SD, Neal Susie of Edgerton, MN, Jim (Amy) Susie of Hills, MN and Tyler (Trisha) Susie of Hills, MN; ten great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Evelyn Helgersen of Sioux City, IA; and several nieces, nephews and extended family. She was preceded in death by her parents, Morgan and Emma Helgersen; three sisters, Fern Rock, Helene Schneider and infant Lynda Helgersen; a brother, Seth Helgersen and one grandson, Chad Susie.
