George, Iowa Betty J. Gronewold age 80 of George, IA died suddenly Saturday, November 28, 2009 at the Sanford Hospital of Rock Rapids. Funeral services will be 10:30 AM, Tuesday, December 1, 2009 at Hope Reformed Church in George, IA, with Rev. David Vander Laan officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Monday, Nov. 30th from 3:00 to 8:00 PM, with the family present from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Jurrens Funeral Home of George. Betty Jane (Krull) Gronewold was born February 24, 1929, at George, IA the daughter of Henry and Abbie (Sprock) Krull. Betty grew up on the farm and attended country school. She graduated from George High School in 1946. On January 27, 1949, she was united in marriage to John J. Gronewold at Worthington, MN. They made their home west of George. In 1963, they moved east of George and in 1977, they moved to the farm where Betty currently lived. She and John worked the land and raised their family side-by-side. She was a faithful member of Hope Reformed Church where she was active in the Esther Circle. She enjoyed attending her grandchildren and great grandchildrens school programs and activities. She and John took many trips to various states. She enjoyed growing flowers, doing word searches, playing cards with family, friends and neighbors. Betty rarely missed watching Wheel of Fortune and almost always would get the puzzle first. Betty got great joy out of having her family visit and she especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. This past Saturday evening, November 28, 2009, Betty died unexpectedly at the Sanford Hospital in Rock Rapids, IA. She is survived by her children, Cheryl and husband, John Koerselman of Little Rock, IA; Barbara and husband, Mike Modder of George, IA; and Merle and wife, Patty Gronewold of George, IA; along with nine grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; and 8 step great-grandchildren; one sister, Iona Krull of George, IA; and many nieces, nephews and friends. Betty was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John; son-in-law, Errol Storm; four sisters, Grace Klaahsen, Sena Krull, Caroline Gruis and Frances Groen; six brothers, Henry, Jr., Weert, Fred Lefty , Alvin, Ivan and Harold Bud Krull; along with a step great grandson, Peyton DeJong.
