Sibley, IA Russell W. Mesner, age 55 formerly of Ocheyedan, IA, died Saturday, March 6, 2010, at his home in Sibley after a courageous battle with cancer. Funeral service will be 10:30 AM Wednesday, March 10, 2010, at the St. Peter Lutheran Church in Ocheyedan, with Reverend Russell Anderson officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday, March 9th from 2:00 to 8:00 PM, with the family present from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Jurrens Funeral Home of Sibley. Russell Warren Mesner was born on November 26, 1954, the son of Dewane and Marge (Ebel) Mesner in Primghar, IA. He grew up in Germantown, IA and attended St. Johns Lutheran School there. He and his family moved to Lake Park, IA in 1964, and Russell was confirmed in the Concordia Lutheran Church on May 11, 1969. He graduated from Harris-Lake Park High School in 1973. On April 22, 1978, he was united in marriage to Jean Lane. The couple made their home in Lake Park, IA for eleven years, and then moved to Ocheyedan, IA where they lived for twenty-three years, prior to moving to Sibley three months ago. Russell owned and operated Northwest Transfer, Inc. where he proudly claimed the title Transportation Relocation Engineer of Hazardous Material. Every year Russell enjoyed breakfast at his moms house followed by hunting with his brothers, motorcycling with his wife Jean, snowmobiling, and their yearly bonfire. He loved keeping busy tinkering with things and helping others when he could. Russell was the proud grandpa of four beautiful granddaughters whom he loved very much. Russell is survived by his wife of thirty-one years, Jean Mesner of Sibley, IA; two daughters, Amy (husband, Brad) Duis of Ocheyedan, IA and Nisa (husband, Joe) deBoom of Sibley, IA; four grandchildren, Jada and Marissa Duis and Delaney and Danika deBoom; his mother, Marge Mesner of Lake Park, IA; two brothers, Richard (wife, Debra) Mesner of Rockwell, IA, and Robert (wife, Dawn) Mesner of Newton, IA; and sister-in-law, Steph Mesner of Spencer, IA; mother-in-law; three sisters-in-law; one brother-in-law; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his brother, Randy Mesner; father-in-law, Donald Lane; and his father, Dewane Mesner.
