Rock Rapids, IA Levi Hofer, age 50 of Rock Rapids, IA died Tuesday, March 2, 2010 at Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD. Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM, Saturday, March 6th at First Reformed Church in Rock Rapids, IA with Rev. Dan Haggar and Rev. Katie Van Veldhuizen officiating. Burial will follow at the Riverview Cemetery in Rock Rapids, IA. Visitation will be Friday, March 5th from 2:00 to 8:00 PM, with the family present from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Jurrens Funeral Home of Rock Rapids. Levi David Hofer was born May 1st, 1959 to David and Justina (Tschetter) Hofer at Big Stone Colony in Graceville, MN. He attended school at Big Stone Colony as well. In his earlier years, Levi worked on a sheep ranch by Sturgis, SD and helped farm and work with cattle near Winfred, SD. He also helped during the harvest season in KS. On June 20, 1980 Levi was married to Diane Nielsen. To this union 2 children were born, Sheila and Scott. Levi enjoyed 20 plus years working for Jansma Cattle Company and then Fredin Cattle Company as a herdsman and buyer. He had an affinity for the outdoors and he loved to farm and work with cattle. He was a hard worker and well respected in the cattle industry. In the recent years Levi was self employed doing custom cattle feeding and operating a power washing business. On June 21, 1990 Levi was married to Sharon DeBoer and the couple had 3 children, Tyler, Jennifer and Brenda. Levis children will remember the good times with their father. Some of their fond memories include playing as if he were their playground equipment by jumping and crawling all over him, spending time outdoors, specifically going fishing and relaxing around campfires, enjoying his delicious steaks that he would grill, and teasing him because he wanted to watch nature shows, Iowa Public Television and Market to Market. He will never be forgotten. This past Tuesday, Levi passed on at Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls at the age of 50. Levi is survived by his mother, Justina Hofer; previous wife, Diane Hofer; previous wife, Sharon Hofer; daughter, Sheila Hofer of Edna, IA; son, Scott Hofer of Sioux Falls, SD; son, Tyler Hofer, daughters Jennifer Hofer and Brenda Hofer, all of Rock Rapids; 4 grandchildren, Devan Meyer, Blake Meyer, Cody Krull and Brayden Hofer; sister, Dorothy (Amos) Wollman of Watonka, SD; sister, Sarah (Elmer) Hofer of Graceville, MN; Dave Hofer of Sioux City, IA; sister, Alma (Sam) Wipf of White, SD; sister, Marion (Jake) Hofer of Lyndon, WA; brother Paul (Adina) Hofer of Lyndon, WA; sister, Clara (Jonty) Wollman of Lyndon, WA; sister, Hannah (Tom) Hofer of Graceville, MN; sister, Susan (Tim) Hofer of Lyndon, WA; brother, Chris (Hilda) Hofer of Flandreau, SD; sister, Kate (Ernie) Waldner of Lyndon, WA; sister, Lydia Hofer of Luverne, MN; sister, Elizabeth (Henry) Waldner of Lyndon, WA; many nieces and nephews and other family members. He was preceded in death by his father, David Hofer.
