Hills, MN Henrietta Schouwenburg, age 91 of Minot, ND formerly of Hills, MN died Sunday, May 1, 2011 at Trinity Hospital in Minot, ND. Funeral services will be 10:30AM Saturday, May 7, 2011 at The Reformed Church of Steen, MN with Rev. Dan Kuik, officiating. Burial will follow in the Eastside Cemetery at Steen, MN. Visitation will be Friday, May 6th from 4:00 to 7:00PM with family present from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Jurrens Funeral Home of Hills. Henrietta Groen Schouwenburg was born on August 2, 1919 on a farm in Rock County to John Groen and Henrietta (Selles) Groen. She grew up on family farms in the Leota, MN area. She attended the Leota School for Christian Education through the eighth grade. On March 7, 1947 she married Simon Schouwenburg and was married for 49 years until Simons death in 1996. They had two daughters, Evelyn and Karen. After Simons death she continued to be active in the Southwest Minnesota area and the Reformed Church of Steen, where she was a member for 64 years. In September of 2010 Henrietta fell, and subsequently moved to assisted living in Minot, ND near her daughter Evelyn. In January of 2011 she became ill, and although she was able to return to assisted living she never quite recovered. She died on Sunday May 1, 2011 with both her daughters at her side during the last week of her life, walking her home at the end. She is survived by her daughters; Evelyn LeClair and her husband Richard (Dick) of Parshall ND, Karen Visser and her husband Robert (Bob) of Afton MN. She has three granddaughters; Shane and Angela Cardinal of Minot ND, Rick and Danielle Rickert of Detroit MI, and Kara Visser of Frederick MD. She has two remaining sisters, Carrie Ruiter and Willemena Doppenberg. She was preceded in death by her husband Simon; her parents John and Henrietta Groen; 5 brothers, John, Gerrit, Case, Klaas, and Henry Groen; infant sister and sister Alice Groen Vis.
