Hartley, IA Karen Wegter age 67 of Hartley, IA died Saturday September 22, 2012 suddenly at her home. Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, September 26, 2012 at the Jurrens Funeral Home in Sibley, IA. Burial will follow in the Holman Township Cemetery of Sibley. Visitation will be Tuesday, September 25th from 2-8 p.m. with the family present from 6-8 p.m. at the Jurrens Funeral Home of Sibley. Karen Mae Wegter was born on February 18, 1945 in Minneapolis, MN. She was adopted by Garrett and Ada (Smith) Beyer. Karen grew up in the Sheldon, IA area and received her education there. After high school she married Larry Wegter and they lived and farmed various places until 1993, when they moved to a farm near Hartley, IA. Karen worked various places throughout her life such as Bell Hardware, as an EMT in Sibley, Sibley Nursing and Rehab, Johnson Eye Clinic and for Dr. Tad Knobloch in Hartley, IA, where she retired from in 2010. She enjoyed doing crafts, gardening, flowers, sewing, quilting, and oil painting. She always looked forward to wintering in Sun City, AZ each winter. Karen is survived by two children, Les (Kelly) Wegter of Muscatine, IA and Kim (Scott) Mason of Early, IA; five grandchildren Kyle and Danielle Wegter, Charlie Palsrok, and Steven and Katie Mason; aunts, uncles, cousins and many other extended family. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Larry; son, Kelly; and two infant children.
